Credit card expiry

Hi all.
I have tried to reserve a hotel room using the 'free' cancellation route.
The date is for November.
My credit card is valid till October so my reservation was refused.
I ring the bank, Lloyds, they tell me there is nothing they can do.
Even if they say my card is lost or damaged it will still come back with the same expiry date.
This seems very strange as it must happen to loads of people.
Any one else had this grief or is it just my bank?
Ta.

Nothing much you can do about the Lloyds card. The only way round it is to get another card with a different validity period.0

Thanks for that.
Ridiculous system.
Why they can't cancel them and issue new ones is a mystery to me.
Ah well.0 -

I doubt that very much, they probably told you that to prevent you from doing it. As if a bank is going to send out a new card to you dated say from 04/16 to 10/16. If you had the time/inclination, I would perhaps test their policy to see whether they are lying or not and if they were lying, you can complain to them and get some compensation from them.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I agree, every time I have had a card replaced, the new card has had a new expiry date.Candyapple wrote: »I doubt that very much, they probably told you that to prevent you from doing it.0 -
When my card stopped working in January, i got a new one and it had the exact same expiry date. The card was only 6 months old though, so you may have to pass a certain amount of time before it has a new expiry date?Save 12k in 2016 : #54 : £715.16 / £5,5000

A lot of providers will maintain the original expiry date until a certain point - eg 6 months before expiry.0

That I can understand, it's not like you've held the card for 3 years which is usually the dates most card companies give you before expiry, at 6 months I would expect the end expiry date to be the same.
In the OP's case, their card is due to expire in 7 months time so they've likely held their card for at least 2.5 years so it seems disingenuous for Lloyds to turn around and say that if the OP claimed the card was lost/stolen their new one would be short dates for the remaining 7 months. I'm sorry, I don't buy it at all.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Thanks for the inputs.
They actually mentioned 90 days so perhaps that's their cut off date.
I would love to test their 'integrity' (Ha) but I assume they will have my last call logged and the reason for it.0 -

I've had this problem before too.
I had an alternative card so used that to make the reservation and swapped to the other card when we arrived at the hotel, by which time it had been renewed.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Seems crazy to me.
They tout for your business, you tell them you can't use the damn card and offer zero solution!!
Perhaps it's an EU directive, sounds mad enough!!0
