  • Try having a look over Tesco's own description: http://www.tesco.com/telecoms/internet_phone.html
  • It depends what you want it for. If you want it as a way of making cheaper international calls, it might be worth it - but I'd check the telecoms thread first to see if it's really cheaper, or if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

If you want it as a way of making free internet calls to other people also sat at computers with handsets, you might be slightly disappointed as the most popular system for this is Skype (https://www.skype.com) - and Tesco's system isn't compatible with it.

So it depends what you want it for - if nobody you know is on Tesco's system - I'd take a look at Skype first. Skype->Skype calls are also free, and they also do deals on international calling. Plus you can use any cheap headset you like with it.

Tesco and Skype are the two dearest VoIP providers going.

Have a look over in the home phones forum.

Skype charge you if you want a real number, charge you for voicemail on top of being one of the two dearest.

There are many VoIP providers. Depends what you want.

With a SIP standard service you can cheaply buy SIP ATAs and chop and change SIP providers as and when you like.

With a SIP ATA you can make and receive calls without the need of a PC being on, you connect a regular corded or DECT phone up to the ATA and the ATA connects to a router or has router facilities built in.

Many VoIP providers issue a local number of any area code of your choice for no cost. VoIP-VoIP calls on the same network are free several have peering arrangements with other SIP providers so these can be free to.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
