Rotary washing line doesn't spin

My son-in-law concreted in a new Minky 3-arm rotary washing line into my patio. It all seems great, very stable and straight but it doesn't spin in the wind. I can manually move the arms around to load and unload but I thought a rotary line was meant to rotate on its own. Am I missing something?

    some strong enough wind
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • It may move if the wind catches the clothing right, but it won't spin round n round (unless you fix a big motor to it  )

It is called a rotary because it can rotate if you apply motion to it. It is also so that you can stand in one place, hang up some washing and move the line round. In my case, so that we can stand on the path and move the line around so we do not have to stand on the grass.

If it did move freely it would just rotate to the position with least wind resistance & stay there.

Yes...you need to move it around yourself. It doesn't move on it's own.

  • Perhaps it needs a spin doctor.

Quite possibly. Did you forget to attach the donkey and carrot to it?
