cost to fix mot fails??

  • Whilst most of these problems in themselves are not massive jobs, there are quite a lot of them, and as stated above the biggest cost will be the labour involved.

Does the garage that did the MOT not do repairs? Can they not give you a rough quote for repairing it? I would also suggest you get another garage to look at it and give you a quote.

It does sound like this car is going to cost more to repair than it is probably worth (unless it is a particularly bad example of a newer car) so it may be time for a new one. But having said that as mentioned above do you have any friends who are mechanically minded? Most of these jobs are within the capabilities of an amateur mechanic and this could save you a lot of money.

But most importantly what I think all the judgmental grumpy gits above are really saying is, remember that it's about safety, not just money. Some of these problems could mean that your car is unsafe on the road, and as such you really shouldn't be driving it anywhere, for your sake and the sake of other road users.

    Drive safe OP. :)

Even if not the case, ever heard the saying never buy a mechanics car?! :p

I must admit when I was younger that would certainly apply. Bought a car that had a few small issues and just done the essentials to keep it road legal.

Dodgy electric windows and door locks, fixed by removing the button, door hinge snapped because i was too lazy to apply a bit of heat and some WD40 and grease it.

Tyres and brakes were always good though.
