So you've basically done nothing to maintain your car what so ever. Pretty shocking you haven't even regularly checked the basics - lights and tyres ! Thank fu(k for mot's0

It's absolutely impossible for anyone to give a price without seeing the car.
Just one of those
.Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is
excessively corroded,,
Could be anything from £40 to £5000 -
You need to get into the habit of checking your car regularly
>> Nearside Front Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm,
>> Offside Rear Tyre has ply or cords exposed,,
Apart from the obvious danger to you and others, that would be 6 points if pulled over by the police.
Unless the car is really special, it's time to scrap it. As soon as possible.0 -
that is a lot of work. If its an old car i'd be looking to scrap it unless i knew someone who could do the work on the cheap.
Individually some of those items aren't that bad, tyre-cheap to replace. CV joint and boots, just the labour to worry about. Even the advisory about rear shock bushes- can pick up a bush for about 4 quid as long as the shocks good,it can be removed, the bush mounted on it and refitted to the car, most garages will try to sell you a whole shock (50-70 quid per shock)
Add them all up and cost soon starts to mount up.
I'd be most concerned about
having the brake pipe work done. I had similar work done and it was costly so a mechanic friend custom made new brake lines, which involved removing some and rerouting them which worked out cheaper.
oil leak too. Mot doesn't specify what oil leak-even though i know its an adv i'd still want to get it sorted you need to find out whether its a major one to fix like a back end leak or something like a rocker cover gasket leak
Seatbelt anchor- Could be a cheap fix could cost £££
Bonnet catch- Could be a few quid from the scrappers for a catch
I suppose your best bet would be to take your list around to local garages and find the best price. But they're going to charge OTT for the more simple things unless like i said you know someone who can do all the fairly minor stuff firstEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -

OP - go and thank the MOT man, because he's just taught you a valuable lesson, saving you from points and a fine for those tyres. Then learn about basic weekly checks - bulbs, fluids, tyres.
And don't you dare point to your gender as an excuse. That's a pathetic cop-out. Some of the best car mechanics and restorers I know are female.louisesarah wrote: »Just looking for rough price on fixing these.

These are all things that you should have noticed long before taking the car for an MOT. Most of them are very quick and easy fixes. The rear tyre is actively dangerous, because either of extreme age or because of being bounced off things. The front tyre will lead to much longer stopping distances, especially in the wet..Nearside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded,,
.Offside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded,,
.Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded,,

These are all things that would have been picked up by any half-way competent service, and are pretty much just age-related wear and tear. The corrosion of the seatbelt mount is the only one which might be a substantial problem.Advisory notice item(s)
.Nearside Rear Shock absorber has a slightly worn bush
.Offside Rear Shock absorber has a slightly worn bush
.Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened
.Oil leak
These are things which the car hasn't failed on, but which the tester thinks you ought to know about. Maybe they're a bit either-way on if they should have failed, maybe they'll be fine, but he thinks you ought to know.
The oil leak is something you should have known about - if it's anything but very minor, you'll be needing to top the oil up regularly, but then you'd have noticed the seized bonnet safety catch, right? Oil getting on rubber bushes in the suspension will make them deteriorate more rapidly.
The brake disc is just routine maintenance, and the bushes are just age-related wear again.
All in, they may well cost more to fix than to buy a cheap shed with some MOT left - but if you do these, they will be good for years to come, while the cheap shed may have a similar list next year, giving you the same dilemma.0 -
And these people walk amongst us... Or more worryingly, drive amongst us.
I imagine excuses include:
I am a single woman
It's my first car
I'm not a mechanic
I'm on a budget
I have a busy lifestyle and a job with long hours
I have a young baby0 -

Even if not the case, ever heard the saying never buy a mechanics car?!0 -
So all of these things were fine on the last MOT? Or didn't you own the car then?0
