Just prise the thing out ,disconnect the wires and give it a good clean. While out put your charger into the thing and check that it is connecting to where it should , as mentioned above. Probably more the thing you re putting in the socket than the socket. Some sockets only work with engine on too .

Pedants aside.... There is a difference between a cigarette charger and an aux socket. Most family wagons have multiple sockets now. Mine has 4. And it is important to know the difference and how they charge things. As an example the cigar lighter in the dash won't charge my iPhone. The USB socket in the dash will. The socket in the middle row won't work with the cigar lighter plugged in but it will (with the appropriate Anker charger) charge 2 iPads! Etc..

I'm not how pointing out that there are two different types of socket could possibly be a bad thing? Most people don't know and once they do know, they can better understand AND usually appreciate being given the real truth instead of a pat on the head with a "never mind your just too thick to understand, so i'll just pretend to give a flying one".

In very much the same way I had to stop a colleague trying to tap into a 3 phase supply in an attempt to obtain more power sockets on his work bench.
The concept that one power socket was not the same as another AND that he could potentially end up with 415v AC between the outer chassis of one item and the outer chassis of another one just across his work bench, did not seem to compute and indeed he probably thought I was "trying to look clever", when actually I was just trying to stop him killing someone!!!!!!!!!!

Now the fact is that OPs issue is clearly being caused by using the incorrect plug type for the socket, nobody is going to die, but the fact remains that OP needs to understand why they're having issues.

In a similar vein, these two words sound similar but have an important difference.

That's got absolutely sweet f**k all to do with this thread, an attempt at ad-hominem to discredit what i'm saying, based on a grammatical mistake created by the auto-correct on my phone.

I honestly expected better from you.

I'm not disputing the sockets capabilities. I'm just pointing out the grammatical error your phone has been making for years.

There are three types of socket. A cigarette lighter socket for common people, a cigar lighter for rich people and a auxiliary socket for the pseudo posh. None are a good electrical connector.

My local garage FIXED this. He said it was coroded, so scraped off the corosion. LED light is on solid and appears to work (though have not tried it fully yet). He said HONDA want £26 for a new socket, but I'll use this one now that it has been de-corroded, until it dies.
