Forgive me for this question, but I've been reading through the T&Cs and can't find the answer - are halifax a bank which requires the account being switched to have dd set up in order to get the £125 switcher bonus?

Or will I still get the bonus without setting up any dds prior to moving?
The reason you can't find anything in the incentive T&Cs about switching DDs (or anything else specifically) is because it isn't there!

In effect, they offer an 'account closure' service...and pay you £125 into the bargain!

Well ain't that mightily decent of them!

I was just after some clarification because, when I was reading about the details, it kept mentioning switching any DDs or SOs, etc.

Totally new to this switching for money and trying to make the best of my money, so thanks for your reply! :)

I've been with Halifax for over 20 years. I have found their online banking excellent and I always find it has a user friendly feel to it.

I like how they use your contact number to verify any online payments, thus not having to carry a card reader with you. I like also that everything is there on one page to click and expand. You can also see pending payments. Other banks I use seem about a decade behind with how they look, feel and are used in my opinion.

As for branch, rarely use but always seem to find the staff there are helpful and always seem to be helping customers. Other banks I have gone into don't seem to give a stuff if you're queueing up or even if you could do it quicker or easier elsewhere.

    Thank you.

I can always transfer a few DDs from my main current account once it's open, I just wasn't sure whether they needed to be in place prior to opening the account :)

If they did, you almost certainly wouldn't have time anyway...being as the £125 offer ends in just over a week!

Not sure about that either. If the switch hasn't yet taken place you might have time to get the DDs organised? One of mine only took a couple of weeks, if that (Tesco saver.) The other, a charity DD took absolutely weeks to set up. Both were new DDs as I had run out of transferrable options, those t&cs are getting too canny!
I just think it is easier to have the DDs set up- leaves no opt out loopholes !!!!

Ah ha just seen the deadline. So, no just switch quick, if that is possible

Got accepted earlier for a Halifax account and closed a Nationwide account I hadn't used for a while and will pay in the min amount and setup the DD's when I receive the activation code.

Noo. I can open/close accounts easily but Lloyds often require me to call or just say "we can't action this at present". I also log onto Halifax with a nickname but Lloyds is a number. Who remembers numbers

I have used both of them for many years. The online banking has always been essentially the same across Lloyds/LloydsTSB, Halifax and BoS. TSB still uses the same since the split.

They have some different account offerings but the capability of the online system doesn't differ. If you get strange messages in your Lloyds online banking, that's likely to do with the way you use your account. I have many accounts with each of them and never seen the message you had. All my accounts bar a couple of the BoS ones were opened online. Closing of some accounts can be done online, others have to be done in Branch or by Post. That's the same at all of them.

Logging in - you are right, remembering logins can be difficult, especially if you have dozens of accounts like I do. That's why I use an account aggregation service which logs me into any bank within seconds.

For years now, the only thing that attracts me to Halifax is their monthly reward. Lloyds and BoS have been offerings lots better accounts to anyone who is after savings.
