they give all that as they make a lot of money of interest and fees from your house purchase. its all cheap stuff as well so little cost to them. Santander I heard are bad as well.

We got the welcome box as well.

It is cheap for them. But it's a nice gesture and a bonus if they were the cheapest for you anyway!

I bet a lot of it was sponsored by the companies too as there were lots of leaflets and coupons in there for all sorts of places.

I have a feeling its to do with porting as they purposely want the chain to fail so I may end up selling without buying and end u paying an early repayment fee (£4.5k). I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case.

    Oh behave pal...

Screams of bitterness all over it.

Perhaps it went to underwriters because your case wasn't so strait forward, another reason to use brokers than go Rambo.

Another vote for Nationwide; mistakes happen...
When we took out our current (and absolutely brilliant) motrgage deal, we failed the application process and the literal reply to the Q.... "how much do you earn" was zero- as I was between jobs and awaiting a pension... So sensible Nationwide lady got on the bone, and said to the Underwriters... "we've got another silly 'Komputr sez no' one here..."

And gave us the loan; just as well - as it was for 0.75 over base rate- so while it started off around 5-6%, it has been down to a stonking 1.25% for several years since the bank rate fell-

Whereas the Natwest, with whom I'd then banked for over 30 years screwed up royally on another earlier mortgage and nearly cost me the purchase and my deposit! I was bailed out by Halifax (who were probably still a mutual at that time?

    So blessed be the mutuals!

How long ago did you lot get your welcome packs? I took out a new mortgage with Nationwide in 2012 (I already had a mortgage with them though) and I didn't get anything :( Maybe I should join the boycott :rotfl:

Still more than happy with Nationwide, and like the fact I can change product and they are always competitive even to existing customers - or should I say members (cos that's a key difference).

I went with a broker because we needed to get it pushed through quickly and had no problems at all with Natonwide. My only problem was the broker not recommending Nationwide in the first place! When I queried the better rate with Nationwide rather than the building society he was pushing, he said he hadn't suggested Nationwide because he knew they had a backlog. But then miraculously when he knew that was what we would go with, with or without him, it wasn't going to be a problem because his ace team would gee it along. Which in fairness they did. So I would also recommend a broker, with the caveat that you double check what they are suggesting and make them earn their commission.

I've banked with Nationwide for a long long time, I've got a mortgage with them (co-incidentally, went through a broker and NW had the best offer) and I've never had problems.

I think suggesting everybody avoid using Nationwide because of one poor experience is pretty pathetic. Given they are one of the largest lenders out there...

Ive got a nationwide mortgage and couldn't be happier with the service they provided me.

Ive also had a halifax mortgage and the nationwide welcome box, and service and interest rate, were much better than what i got from the halifax.

To the OP i suggest you correctly sterilise your toys when you put them back in your pram
