British Gas say my meter readings are incorrect format?

I switched to British Gas from nPower on the back of the MSE newsletter a little while ago.
Today was time to submit meter readings, so i tried to.

Gas is 5 digits for example. But the website is saying it wants a 13 digit number.

I don't have one.

Am i looking at the wrong thing? If so what should i actually be submitting?

Always worked for nPower.

I think you are looking at the wrong thing.The thirteen digit s will probably be the metric meter serial number. You are right that the reading will be the first five digits (of the 8 ) on the meter including leading zeros

Are you sure it's asking for a meter reading and not the meter serial number?

What fuel are you talking about? 13 digits is the length of the electricity MPAN which is required for the switch.

When BG email you for your opening meter readings, they display the meter point number on the email that you get (on the right hand side of the email below your customer number) and if I recall correctly you then need to input this on the website as well as the meter reading.
