How often your child having accidents at school?

My son started school last year and not many weeks Went by last year without a form! Green for injury and pink for head injuries. He's needed stitches twice and been sent home after bumps to the head about 5 times. Few scars and mystery injuries too.
I got to the point last year where I would answer the phone to an embarrassed teacher saying " I'm so sorry but he's fallen etc" and I would say " is there blood? Does he need stitches.?" Before rushing down. They did have a tendency to be a bit vague or " just a bump" and you would turn up and be like no no that's a hole. Needing stitching. Lip, head etc!
He's been better since getting glasses actually! Have you had her eyes tested?0 -
The nurses from A&E will tell you this - I was waiting with Mum one time when a nurse came out, looked round the waiting room, saw a family who had just arrived and said "Freddie! What have you done this time?"
Sounds like my cousin. He went in the air ambulance three times and was admitted to the local hospital numerous times. He was well known by them at the hospital.0 -
I'm a lunchtime supervisor A.K.A dinner lady. I take my turn in the accident area, wow it's busy busy with reception children. Often regular faces .
They finish first for lunch so they are out the longest for play so by default they have more chance of hurting themselves. They are fun little ones playing anything and everything.
Your list looks like a weeks worth rather than the year so far!Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0 -
Is this unusual for your daughter OP? did she go to nursery/kindergarten and was this accident prone?
I am not trying to make out that school is at fault - just that if she has not been previously 'accident prone' in similar situations then it needs investigation.
my three kids all seemed accident prone too - but they were ALWAYS like that. if it strikes you as unusual for YOUR child - then talk to the teacher and perhaps the playground supervisor?0 -
I'd be more concerned if she wasn't getting bumps, cuts and bruises. Not getting them would imply she wasn't running, climbing and playing with the other children. It would imply she was sitting around all day without enough exercise.0

I don't recall seeing a bruise free leg for about 2 years.
Offspring #2 is seventeen soon and hasn't had a bruise free day yet.
Mind you, neither have I.
If she's walking into doorframes I'd probably get an eye test done to be certain, though.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
My daughter falls over daily, my wife is constantly having to buy new tights because she's ripping the knees, my boy very rarely has a knock. It's not the schools fault my daughter is in Lala land.0

let's just say when my mobile rings about 1.20pm i never answer ... dd is always bumping her head on something. there are very few weeks without me having a call. i did wonder at one point if something was going on but she assures me not.
i think it is, like others have said, just dependant on your child etc.
That's terrible that you don't take a call from the school  never mind at what time. I work in a Secondary school and cover first aid sometimes, and yes the majority of the time the bumps and cuts are minor and we do not call home, but with some head injuries or other incidents depending on how they are we do, The school only have 1st aider's there and it is not their responsibility to make a judgement call for your child.
We have had broken limbs, back injuries, breathing difficulties to name a few incidents, how would you feel if it was something major?? We have had to release staff on occasion to go and sit in A&E with students because parents "Don't bother to answer the phone" :mad:0 -
Based on responses here, I concluded that there is not much to worry about thenHappiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

When I was at secondary school 2 children died of a brain haemorrhage.. imagine if their parents hadn't answered:eek: you'd never forgive yourself would you
My 13 y/o fell off a bicycle while doing the cycle proficiency test (she didnt pass it lol) and they thought she had broken her wrist.. while in A&E a boy of about 14 was brought in by a member of school staff because his parents phones.. both parents.. were ringing out.. he had a broken ankle and ended up in theatre!!
I've been in to school assessed my childs 'injuries' .. treatment prescribed.. hugs and a jelly baby.. and sent them back to class.. I have also told staff the child is pulling a fast one and to send them back to class.. DD1 (when about 7) said she felt sick at the end of lunch.. her friend had been sick and been sent home.. So i asked if she had eaten her lunch.. yes.. was she talking and behaving normally? .. yes.. does she have a raised temp? .. no ... shes taking the mickey send her back to class!
We've had some well timed calls too.. come pick up a child while I'm on hospital monitors! and another time I was just being wheeled to theatre!
2:20pm .. come collect a spewer.. well, I'm on my way already (45 minutes walk) so I'll be there at the usual time!
The school do try to send them home over silly things sometimes.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
