Benefites cut due to apparent working?

About 5 or 6 weeks ago i recieved a letter from DWP stating that they were cutting my income support from 130 a fortnight to 60 due to apparently me 'working' which i havent, i rang them and they said i had been working from may 2015 which is aload of lies because i was 7 months pregnant with my little boy, anyway they said i had to go into the work place get a letter and get it sent off, i went into the work place and they looked on their system to find another young girl with the same first and last name as mine but they have photo proof is is not me, long story short i had rang up 8 or 9 times in a week and everytime i had to retell what had happened and nothing was ever being passed on, i cannot tell you how much crap ive had to go through to try and get this sorted! Anyway i still havent heard anything back and i sent the later off as soon as they asked which was about 5 weeks ago now i dont know what else to do :(

Very strange since notification of work is usually done through NI number as well as name.

So, since you are getting nowhere with this I suggest you take all your paperwork and go to CAB who can telephone the DWP on your behalf and find out what is going on.
  • Exactly what i thought surely they would have asked to for her national insurance number? I think that is what is annoying me most of all im being wrongly accused of working all because they were to lazy to ask a national insurance number or even date of birth
  • Im not to sure but im positive DWP said on the phone they recieved the infomation from the Tax office or something

Then perhaps it's a tax office error?

Or the employee gave the wrong details.

    Or there was a typo.
  • Yeah true but still its been 6 weeks with hardly any money with an 8 month old to buy for i just thought it would have been sorted by now, ah well i shall ring up today again and see whats going on

You need to contact HMRC as it seems the information was passed by them to the DWP, until the tax office clear it their end the DWP won't sort it.
  • I cant seem to find the HMRC number everytime i ring one they say im ringing the wrong place :/

Employers now have to report back to HMRC on at least a monthly basis, rather than jsut at the end of the yeasr, so HMRC have an up to date picture of who is earning what via PAYE and what taxes they are paying - it's called REal Tmie Information.

They're also sharing the information with other government departments such as DWP and it sounds as if this is how they've got the information from.

But like pmlindyloo says, the reporting should primarily be on NI number rather than name, so it's difficult to see how they have got you and this other woman confused.

And if it's a case of mistaken identity the other lady's workplace really shouldn't be speaking to you about it.
