4 bedroom detached house - Severn Trent Water

Have been living in a rented property for a few months now but never actually investigated the water bill price until now. At which point I almost cried!

Some values pulled off my bill
- The rateable value of your property is £308.00
- Water supply £352.07
- Used Water and Surface Water Drainage £360.38
- Total amount £783.16 for 12 months

I can't help but feel this is very expensive, with my parents/friends living fairly close (same water company) are only being charged around £500pa some of which have much larger properties!

Is this a normal rate? Is there anything that can be done?

Yes that's a normal rate. There is no appeal.

Yes something can be done. You can switch to a meter. A tenant has the right to install a meter.

Water and waste water charges should come to £118 per person for usage assuming 50 cubic metres per person per year plus £124 in standing charges for the property. A 4 bedroom house might have 8 occupants so you should expect a bill of around £1,068 per year.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
