Recommended tradesmen

I desperately need a roofer, damp roof course and a plasterer but I can't find anyone to recommend these, my local council suggested checked and vetted but the two that did answer the phone isn't turn up to do the quotes!
Any idea where I can find decent, honest trades persons?

I'll bet you don't need a damp proof course as well!

Both Trading Standards and Which? have 'Trusted Traders' schemes.

I'm also sceptical about the dpc.....

Age Concern do something similar (you don't have to be old to ring them though!)

My nan does need a damp proof course as her home is 200 years old and was built without one, a partial course @ 35 years ago and she has rising damp.

I've got a couple of very good chaps working tile hanging the outside wall of my house right now. Got the recommend from our local Streetlife website.
When I paid the chap at the end of the job, I mentioned that I had got his name from Streelife. He said that he had never heard of the website. I'm going to email him a link later today.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Ask on your local Facebook group.

    Ask friends.

And if that doesn't work, use CheckaTrade.

Have you actually started a thread on Streetlife asking for roofer etc and you didn't get any answers?

A damp proof course will unlikely work on a 200 year old property.

If moisture is getting in it is likely for other reasons. 1 is the external render and the internal plaster being redone in modern cement/gypsum based products rather than lime. Another reason could be high ground levels outside/ground sloping towards the house. my recommendation is to look at how and where the damp is getting into the house and treat that, not the symptom of 'rising' damp!
