Renting out parking spaces: are you sitting on a goldmine?

  • There's also: http://www.parklet.co.uk

which takes 15% commission; I think it's similar to youcanpark in that it takes care of all the financial stuff.
  • When I lived in Leeds City Centre I rented a flat with 2 parking spaces and only had one car. I rented the other space out privately to someone who worked at the restaurant up the road - cash in hand and no questions asked. The income I got from that paid a quarter of my rent! There were no security measures other than cameras so no-one elses car was compromised, anyway I knew (and trusted) the person renting the space from me. Maybe private is the best way to go? It could be worth taking a little less money to avoid a whole lot of hassle.
Just completed my one-time IVA :D

Another one is https://www.usemyspace.co.uk - I think they also look at other spaces, like garages/boat etc. Interesting concept especially if you are in a town/city centre or near a major attraction.

  • i rent my property from a housing association and have a drive not used. opposite is a very large office/factory who double park along my road andeven block my space regularly so renting it out would be a great idea but can as i am only renting? if so how much could i charge i live a five minute walk to kings cross station and thameslink both very busy areas and parking is very expensive here am also just outside the red route so they would not need to pay that either by parking here. also bus route on top of me that links me to city/west end and many other attractions
  • A good idea in theory, but anyone thinking of doing this might be wise to check with their local council as to whether they need planning permission to do so. It could conceivably be classed as a (partial) change of use from residential to business use.

Similarly, some properties have restrictive covenants on them that prevent parking of commercial vehicles, or use of any part of the home for business. It only needs a miserable old so-and-so of a neighbour to telephone the tax office for malicious reasons to cause a real problem.

    Hi Paddy's mum
Sorry to be a miserable old so and so ,but whistle blowers come in all shapes, sizes , colours, and ages.
I'm sure that you didn't intend this comment to be discriminatory, and that it's just my paranoia, but we wrinklies get a bad press about so many things these days that I thought I'd mention it Regards Lustydog:rolleyes:

If that happens, I'd be pleased that I wasn't in the building!

Anywhere on the northern line and take the tube back to Camden; or use thameslink stations if you are nearer to Kentish Town.

I don't know how you are from the Royal Free Hospital, but that has a large carpark. Search online for its charges.
