Renting out parking spaces: are you sitting on a goldmine?

  • My parents house is very close to where our football ground used to be and people would park along one side of the road. My friend and I would 'sell' parking spaces if our parents were out - we could get two cars on each driveway and two each on the grass. Easy tenner! :money: Then they went and moved the football ground and our little enterprise was no more...
  • Can anyone let me know what the legalities are of renting out a space that accompanies a property that you yourself rent? A friend of mine rents in Leeds city center and her flat has a space 5 mins walk from Leeds city centre which she would like to rent out, however she is not sure if she can do so legally given that she does not actually own the space.

I suppose its along the same lines as sub letting a room in your rented house.

Any advice would be greatfully recieved.

    Cheers

  • Also, I know a lot of people wno rent out thier leeds city centre spaces for about £200 a month so there is definatley money to be made!
  • ah just seen the post answereing my question......
  • I found a parking space near Wembley on eBay for last season's L1 play-off final. I'm sure that I could have found somewhere cheaper but I was happy that my pride and joy was safe.

    :)

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • Leaseholders and secured parking areas?? NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO

Someone where I live rents out there space to a car hire company...the key to the front gates is left in the car...the key also opens our car parking area which is somewhat hidden away and full of rather nice cars... strange that since the space has been rented out nearly everyone's car has been broken into!

A friend I had knows of someone who rented a space in an underground car-park. Got £500 deposit, the space was never used but a few rather nice sports cars disappeared on the first week.

Also leasehold agreements often don't allow a parking space to be rented separately from a flat/house. Landlords will find lots of tenants renting out their parking spaces so you should probably tell your tenants not to do it.

Sorry to be Mr Angry but I'm fed-up with people making a sneaky bit of cash doing this and at the same time making it easy for everyone elses cars to be stolen
  • Liverpool Echo report.
Liverpool Council prosecuted resident of Anfield Road for allowing cars to park on his land.
    The fine was £4500
They said no planning permission was granted and he had been warned.

The other things to consider, apart from planning permission and the tax man, are: you might need permission from your mortgage company and also your building insurer, and what will happen if the parker trips over your cat on your drive and breaks their leg.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
