co op energy bill ? i thought i paid it (direct debit) and transferred to new supplie
Options
ive just recieved a letter from the co-op energy for around 580£
i used to pay via direct debit when i was with them, and did a transfer to ovo energy using the online transfer system and i have been paying the new supplier ever since, i think its been about a year with them...so i don't understand why the co-op have sent me a bill
i am trying to get through to them but i am having no luck on the telephone
this is the first reminder notice i have recieved or reference to me owing them any money....
its seems extortionate as i would have paid my final bill when i transferred right? they would calculate it and send it me or take from direct debit i would assume
can anyone advise ?
thanks

You should always check your bills and payments and retain them - even online bills & statements should be either saved in a file on your computer or print it out - especially the very last one.
Unless you've got some idea of what you paid and when, the meter readings etc and what tariff you were on it makes it very difficult to back track to see if and when it all went wrong. Even worse if you can't even remember yourself.
Request a final bill from them and see if your bank account has a corresponding payment to clear it.
You have got your bank records haven't you? If not, then you'll have to try and get duplicate statements from the bank (frequently they charge for them)
In future, do it properly and save your evidence, don't just rely on the energy company (or any other come to that) to save it all. Once the on'line account has close you are stuffedNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I had the same thing - sudden reminder through the post for a bill I never received. It looks like their new (?) computer system is finally going back over the nonsense they presided over last year and is looking to balance the books.
If you log into your online Co-op account (they never closed mine), you can request archived bills - select all the options.
After 3 or 4 days you'll get an email with a series of pdfs in it. They actually make no sense and have 'correction' amounts in them. No details of usage or meter readings - just a final statement at the end of it showing how much they've calculated you still owe them.
If you didn't cancel your direct debit they'll just have taken it from your account back in January - otherwise you'll start getting reminder letters that you haven't paid your bill.0
