Personally I'd leave the last paragraph out as I don't feel it is currently relevant to sorting this out, nor will it likely change anything.

I also would suggest giving them longer than 72 hours, I believe there is a timeframe you are supposed to allow a retailer to refund you (I think its 14 days) but I'm sure somebody else will confirm this shortly.

If you haven't sent it to The Chichester Biltong Company yet, I'd remove that last paragraph. It is immaterial, adds nothing to your complaint, and UK company or not, there is no requirement for customer service to be reasonable or otherwise.

Last Attempt To Email The Company...
I too think you ought to leave that last paragraph out, and as suggested above, you need to give them seven days or more to come up with the refund.

Leave the chargeback until after you have had their response to the email.

What I don't understand is why you didn't bother to walk down the stairs to sign for the delivery, which would have avoided the whole issue.

I was pretty shocked at the response given by the company. They simply were not interested in helping me. When I pushed them to help, I got a very rude email from the Director.

I suspect the postman. But Royal Mail haven't told me anything and it's been nearly a month. Surely the first thing they would do is request a statement from that particular postman who was in possession of the package.

Have you actually asked your neighbours though?

If you're looking for biltong then contact this company:

    http://www.meatsnacksgroup.com/cruga-biltong/

I live locally to them so buy the whole unsliced fresh slabs. They also do awesome flatties and boerewors, not to forget jumbo bottles of All Gold.

They supply companies including Tesco so not just a "niche" producer.

The only downside is that their Brutal Fruit is always a bit off - God knows how they manage that.

I guess you don't understand how an entryphone system works.

I understand condescension if that's any help.

What I don't understand is what an entryphone system has to do with the OP's decision not to make any effort to sign for the delivery.

With an entryphone system anyone coming to your door rings a buzzer. You then speak to them on a phone/intercom. If you wish to let them into the building you press a button that lets them through the main door to the building. They then come to your door. You would never go to meet them at the main door to sign for an item.

Hopefully you can now see that you saying you don't understand why the op did not go down the stairs to sign for the item simply shows you don't understand how an entryphone system works.

I'm sorry but that's simply not true. If I am expecting an item I will often go to the main door to both sign for it and to bring it back up.
