If someone thinks they may be disappointed if the item doesn't reach a reasonable amount, they set a reserve, surely? I always do when I sell on eBay.

Minimum eBay reserve is now £50 so not really feasible for (probably) the vast majority of items sold. Can't understand why eBay did this, makes absolutely no sense to me . They justified it by saying something about many sellers not using the reserve system correctly . Tough, thats their problem

As eBay charge sellers for setting reserve prices thats another reason I find their decision ridiculous.

Many of the items I sell are in the £20-£40 range and I used to set reserves just under these figures and a start price of £4.99. Now I'm forced to start at a much higher price and this has resulted in fewer bids, on average.

Am I the only one who finds many of eBay's so-called "enhancements" actually backward steps which make life more difficult for sellers ?

The high starting price starts the deception off, £250 for a link? I see he's also selling ipod minis links starting at £30. This is only a 3 day auction, presumably to get the money before the 'laptop' winner complains.

Thanks for that, Carnet - I haven't sold recently so didn't know that - though I had been planning to, so will have to rethink.

It does seem as though eBay is starting to align itself towards traders and full-time sellers - what a shame.

Maybe all us little people need to start thinking about going elsewhere?

Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

  • Just thought i would show you all a tool i made recently - eBay Auction Typo Search. It is not like the rest of the other tools that are out there, it actually generates and displays the results within its own site rather than ebay and also will email you the results, should you wish, evey day, 12 hours or 6 hours....
Take a look and let me know what you think.
