Curry's / PC World Carrier Bag Charge - Vent

Options
Yes, this is a thread about the bag charge!

I was caught short today in PC World when I made a purchase without my trusty foldable shopping bag to hand.

After paying for goods, I asked for a carrier bag, 5p in hand, and was told it was 8p. When I queried this with the sales assistant at the till, he said that was the charge, they didn't have 5p bags.

Later today, I decided to return my purchase (impulse buy, came home and read poor reviews online!) and sales assistant offered to refund the 8p bag charge, but of course it was not showing on the receipt, this gave me the chance to ask him about the 8p charge. I was told 8p was because it was a bag for life, and therefore replaced if it broke. When I asked about a 5p bag, the sales assistant shrugged his shoulders and said they only had 8p ones.

I questioned if the 8p bag for life money went to charity, the sales assistant again, shrugged his shoulders and didn't know!

A little vent, I don't mind paying for a 5p bag when it is needed or when I have forgotten to take a bag with me especially since the 5p goes to charity, but I begrudge being asked to pay 8p for a bag!

Still I kept the 8p bag, and used it in Iceland for my shopping!

It was a bag that cost 8p.

If you are worried about that, look around outside shops, you will find loose change on the floor.

    OK, I'll bite.... :D

    2 points.

1.) The money for single use bags doesn't have to go to charity. It is just 'expected' and as the information will be made public, it is obviously in their interests to do so. Re-usable bags have no such expectation.

2.) It's a minimum of 5p per single use bag, not a fixed price. So if they want to charge 6/7/8/9/10p they can.

So is the 8p bag more waterproof than, say, a 5p Sainsbury bag?

Is a Currys one designed to cope with the after-effects of curries perhaps?
I need to think of something new here...

What I been led to learn is that Sainsburys are planning to give just 1p towards charity from the sale of the 12p bags.

No information forth coming on which charity it will be.

Ps. If you whant to read a real bun fight about 5p plastic bags charges go to...

It will open your eyes about how a charge on plastic bags can get people hot under including me.
