Speeding fine A584
Options
Hi
I'm a relatively new driver of about 9 months
I received a letter from Lancashire constabulary stating that I'd been going 59 mph on a dual carriageway which I thought was at least 60 mph (speed limit 50 mph)
After looking it up online it is well known spot for drivers getting caught as it was reduced from 70 to 50 over the last couple of years
A584 Preston new road to Blackpool road caught on Freckleton mobile speed camera
My question is: Is there any chance of an appeal or should I just pay up and take my medicine??
Many thanks in advance
Rob

There is no appeal, you either accept the ticket or course else go to court.0 -
What would be the basis of any appeal? You admit that the limit is 50mph, so unless you intend to deny you were doing 59 anything other than accepting the ticket would be a waste of time.0

You're likely to be offered a speed awareness course @£70-80 with no points.
Going to court is going to be very costly.....Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
As a new driver of less than 2 years you've probably used up one of your two lives and will have your licence revoked if you get caught speeding again in the next 15 months.
You need to observe the posted limit and not "think" you know what it is. It can get prohibitively expensive for young drivers.
Other posters may point out that there may be "technical" defences available re the paperwork served on you, but it would be better in the long run to take the medicine and observe the limit. You'll be a better driver.0 -
Crossed post with Paradigm. If offered a course take it. You'll be a safer (and better) driver. You really don't want three points after just 9 months.
(Check insurance T&Cs as to whether you need to inform them about a Speed Awareness Course)0 -
The Admiral Group do ask for sure at renewal time/on quotes.
Not every insurance company does though - they just ask about points.
I've done a course, they're a lot better than you might think and you learn a lot.
No chance of an appeal IMO. It's been like that for a while - my brother in law lives that way.0 -
How did you know that the limit had been dropped in recent years if you are a new driver?
As surely you would only have experience of the new limit.
Did somebody steal all the speed limit signs?0 -
Thanks for all the replies guys
Am I likely to get on the speed awareness course?0 -
Respond to the NIP and they'll tell you.
At 59 in a 50 then it is borderline (+10% + 3 mph?)
Remember that being clocked at 59 means your speedo was probably showing 65+0 -
Googled it0
