Extinguish someone else's fire

Comments

  • If someone lights a fire under your window, then obviously your window will get dirty because of the rising smoke.

Naturally, you will wish to clean your window immediately.

This can be achieved by the use of a very large bucket of soapy water.

However, balancing a large bucket of water on a narrow windowsill may sometimes cause the bucket to tip over, and a considerable quantity of water to spill out of the window.

Should this happen, you will naturally apologise immediately to the person whose fire has been accidentally extinguished by the water.

You may also wish to explain that you are very clumsy, and that this most unfortunate accident could happen again in the future, whenever rising smoke makes it an urgent matter for you to clean your window.

Find a legitimate excuse for whatever action you take. If the police think it is deliberate and intent is clear they might decide to take action. If you turn on your sprinklers or water your plants and accidentally put out a fire, they would be far less interested in the case.

Mikey- if you want to escalate this into a full-scale war between neighbours, then yes, I recommend using the hose pipe!

I'd put a smoke alarm just inside the open window and let it go off. If they're outside trying to relax in peace with a small fire going the alarm is going to want to make them move the fire away from the building.

Or.....this looks like it could bea case for using Wagner's Ring Cycle.

Your neighbour should give it to them with both barrels through the hi-fi. They will submit, guaranteed.....well, almost.

I don't see why spraying water out of a window would be criminal damage, even if the chimley is damaged as a result.

You could also try an alternative approach where you attempt put out the fire with a quantity of petrol. Petrol isn't flammable, only petrol vapour is so nothing could possibly go wrong*.

    *That is not true.

Anything to do with chimleys requires intervention by !!!! van Dyke. He's the expert.

But, no, escalation with a water hose is not a good idea. Tea has been recommended by a forum expert. I understand that puts fires out if used in quantity.

It's not genetic - it's nurture not nature.

The article and indeed the whole News Thump site is satirical.
