Number Porting Dilemma

I'm on 3 network on a 30 day rolling SIM only contract which I've had for a few years. I've decided to take out a new contract with 3 for the Honor 7 phone.

I want to transfer my number over from the SIM only contract to my new Honor 7 contact. (I've had the same number 15 years and was originally BTCellnet/O2 number).

3 say I have to downgrade my SIM only contract to PAYG for 30 days before they can transfer my number. This has got me thinking that I could port my number to an O2 PAYG SIM card then port it straight back to 3 the next day to my new Honor 7 contract.

What I want to know is will I need to to-up the O2 PAYG sim first?

Sounds like bu11shit, unless "decided to take " means "have taken".
You just change your contract and don't 'transfer' anything. That's how all 'upgrades' are done, and so are 'downgrades'.

Depends on your luck, but most likely you will.

Why didn't they just upgrade your simo contract?
    Am I missing something?

I took out the Honor 7 contract separately. I didn't upgrade the SIM only contract.

Just incase I didn't like it so I could have sent it back within the cooling off period with no hassles. Although now it is becoming a hassle to transfer my number over.
