that's the anti-venom kit off my huge "to buy" list. x x
Babmy, have you been to America before ? If not, be aware that most things (all things ?) are cheaper in the US, in some cases, a LOT cheaper.. You could save yourself some effort & some money & buy what you NEED when you get there.
p.s before anyone else says it, some foodstuffs, particularly dairy goods are actually dearer in America.0 -

We're going to LA and San Diego in Feb. Originally we were just going to San Diego but with flights from zoom going under we're now going to LA aswell. We're planning on doing 3 nights in LA, and 7 in San Diego. Anyone got any suggestions or feedback? I presume if we book a car from the UK the insurance would be good enough or am I better going through the US sites?
We'll be staying at Universal Studios hilton for the LA trip and in the Gaslamp quarter for San Diego. I'd love to hear if theres anything worth stopping at on the way down from LA to SD as it would break the drive up a bit.
1st day - Arrival, probably tired so won't do too much but universal citywalk
2nd day - Universal Studios
3rd day - tour of LA and stars homes, then around hollywood for a bit
4th day - Hire a rental car for the day, drive down to San Diego, can anyone recommend any detours for a bit of sightseeing on the way? I've had a look but can't see any national parks on the way but would be nice to do something as we're not in a hurray.
5th day - san diego zooo
6th day - shopping
7th day - sea world
8th day - balboa park
9th day - boat trip out to sea
10th day - rental car down to safari park
11th day - drive back to LA to fly back0 -

1 - I drove from San Diego to Buena Park (just south of LA) to get to Knotts Berry Farm, and the drive took around 2 hours or so on Highways and traffic was fine. Very easy drive with no need for a break.
Ideally though if i'd had time then would've went up the coast route through the likes of Cardiff by the Sea just north of SD then around the LA Area through the likes of Newport Beach and Huntingdon Beach.
2 - Car Hire. I booked through http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/ and got a very good deal, but I took further insurance out using http://www.insurance4carhire.com to make sure I was fully covered.
3 - San Diego Zoo/Bilboa Park - You could easily cover most of these in one day to be honest. We parked up in Bilboa and strolled through to the Zoo. We were in the Zoo for ages as its quite a size and since its not something we would usually do we made sure we took our time and still could've spent time in Bilboa Park afterwards if we'd felt like it.0 -
I will update you on my plans for next year very soon but we have a fair few B+B's and hotels now booked!
I may need to speak to Murphy the Cat a bit more about some things, but we are now mainly booked up apart from San Diego and Los Angeles0 -
oh how I wish I had something like this to look forward to again!! :-(0

We fly out to Las Vegas on 4th April (147 sleeps!) for 4 nights, pick up car and drive out to Grand Canyon for 2 nights, then from Flagstaff via Route 66 (with 1 night at Lake Havasu) to LA for 2 nights, then down to San Diego for 5 nights, fly back from LA.
