Well, I am still no further along! It seems from the video in dipsomaniacs post I have to open an outlook account, I have done that and put it onto the Nokia but now a day later my contacts have still not migrated from the Nokia to the Outlook site! Exasperated or what!
For contacts to 'migrate' you have either to switch automatic synching on or synch manually.
I think I am going to have to do it all manually, what a pain!
By the way only ditching the Nokia as it no longer charges, I can charge the battery in a friends phone but that is not practical long term.
Just wish things were easier in the digital age!
    Any last minute fixes????????
As you are moving to Moto, open Gmail account - you will need it.
Add this account to your Nokia and synch contacts. Then you will see all contacts in the online online.
Then synch your Moto with this account.
    As simple as that.

This can be done via an Outlook account too.

Thanks, it keeps syncing but the contacts never arrive, a couple of times it said "updated 15mins ago, last tried 5 mins ago, error 85010019
I already have a gmail account it just clogged up the new Moto phone with all my email addresses, I deleted them as I do not want them on the phone, just want my phone numbers!
    So frustrating!

i am assuming this isn't a wind up. if it isn't and you have tried all the above then i would just start again and input manually

Thanks for all the replies. I spent a couple of hours yesterday evening putting all the contacts in manually. So much for the digital age!
Plus sorted another problem, when I deleted the email addresses which had migrated to the new phone it deleted them on my gmail account as well. I didn't realise this would happen so I reinstated those and removed the link on the phone.
I know all you tech savy people know this happens but there is no warning about this in any of the phone instructions!
