    Hi Nifty,

Would you be able to give me a clue re getting best deal for Centrepoint Silom ?

    Cheers, DJB

No need for a clue :)

Of course you already have a fee free card for payment...don't you? Halifax Clarity, Creation Everyday, Santander Zero CC, Post Office Platinum...

    Thanks nifty

No, i dont have any of those cards - I do have a halifax current a/c, and a halifax c/c which i am just using for a balance transfer.

Will look into the clarity thanks.

Do you have any hotel recommendations for Chiang Mai & Khon Kaen ? Ta

Perhaps Halifax may require you to close the other card beforehand. Creation Everyday is a good alternative.

Haven't stayed in many places in Chiang Mai and have not visited Khon Kaen.

    Calling Nifty Digits !

I checked out prices for a 2 night stay at Centrepoint Silom ( via Booking.com in partnership with At Siam )

Unfortunately apparently " this property only accomodates guests 18 and over " - we are travelling with 13 yr old.

Do you have any alternative suggestions please ?

The Holiday Inn Silom is just around the corner but there are a lot of similar hotels nearby. Silom is a good area for families as it away from the crazier nightlife areas that you may not want to expose a 13 yr old to.

There is a full list of Silom hotels at http://www.bangkok.com/hotels/silom

The eighteen or over thing is nonsense. Something got lost in the translation.
Children cannot be accommodated at the hotel.
Any additional children or adults are charged THB 1413 per night for extra beds.
The maximum number of extra beds in a room is 1.
Any type of extra bed or crib is upon request and needs to be confirmed by management.

Also an example direct from Centrepoint's website:

The problem might be that you are trying to choose three people for a two person apartment. If your son was twelve, he could stay for free using existing bedding. As he is thirteen, you'll need to pay for an additional bed at 1413 baht per night, if you choose an apartment for two people.

Of course worst of all is that you waited too long to book with AtSiam and now you have to pay the much higher prices on Agoda or Booking.com. What kept you? :)

Hi Nifty & Doshwaster, thanks for latest feedback.

I delayed booking the Bangkok hotel because it was the last 2 nights of holiday, and wanted to get all the flights and other hotels done & dusted first, plus i filled my credit card to limit and cleared it before i started spending again.

Anyway we have dropped reluctantly dropped Chiang Mai from schedule, as there was too much to fit in the time we had..

So : flying from Bangkok to Khon Kaen , booked a very reasonably priced place ( Khon Kaen Orchid Hotel ) but the reviews are very good.
Staying 4 nights there, then flying back to BK, then onto Samui and staying 8 nights at Centara Villas in deluxe ocean view villa with own pool. Then back to BK and staying 2 nights there before flying back to UK.

Just BK hotel to book now, plus some odds and sods relating to train travel over here..

<<edit>> I used my Santander 123 mastercard to book the flights and hotels as there are no foreign transaction charges on it till end of 2016 - but that card will cost me charges for withdrawing cash from ATMs over there, so i am still pondering that question - got knocked back by Halifax for Clarity as i had another credit card from them fairly recently.

Too much often = too lttle, so you've probably made the right decision.

Khon Kaen looks an interesting choice.
