I get 15% staff discount as there's a nursery at the college where I work. I pay £40 a day and that covers all meals/snacks from 8am-6pm but I provide nappies, wipes and creams.

£45 is a great deal. Back in 1995 l paid more than that a day and had to supply my own nappies, tooth brush and slippers. It did include all meals. l also had to pay for bank holidays and any days/weeks we went on holiday. So prices haven't really gone up that much bearing in mind wages are much higher than they were then and we didn't get any vouchers or tax credits etc to help us out. Interest rates were also high.

Yep, and those 25hour shifts per day, 8 days a week were a killer....:rotfl:

£38/ day each for mine. I bring in nappies & wipes. I have twins though so it's still a massive chunk of my pay each month. We both do childcare vouchers but no free hours / tax credits etc.

When they turn 2 and change rooms it goes down to £36/ day.

My daughter pays £180 a week for her 16 month old.. She gets a grant which covers 85% but food is £10 a day and she provides her own nappies/wipes etc.

This highlights the problems with the system. Pigpen's daughter is only paying £27 a week, with such a huge government subsidy.

It is the same for myself as I get 70% of mine paid, I work full time as a teacher and have a second job, but as a single parent with three in full time childcare I'm entitled to a large amount of tax credits towards, around £600 per month.

So it's only those on low incomes with subsidy, or those on higher incomes it becomes affordable. For those of us in professions like teaching it's not really worth working without the subsidy.

I pay £35 a day for full time nursery and £25 a day per child for before and after school club.

My daughter as a single parent of two simply cannot afford nursery fees as well as out of school care. We take the young child several days a week to allow her to work otherwise shed be left with about £100 pm to feed.clothe and house them

Why does your poll include a 'free on benefits' tick box? are you referring to the funding all parents get?

I take it to mean those parents such as Pigpen's daughter who get 85% paid as a grant, or myself who get 70% paid through the working family tax credit system.

The poll doesn't appear to include the 3 year old FEEE funding everyone is entitled to.

Apologies if I offended, the free on benefits is because a friend of mine sends her two year old to nursery and doesn't pay a penny as she gets benefits, I'm not sure what benefits they are but as we pay full price for our chosen nursery I thought it would be interesting to see how many others do

My sister used to work at the same nursery and got £85 a week..

£85 a week for a full time employee? Don't they have minimum wage where you live?
