And side note: cupcakes went quick at work and I was accused by a woman of being sexist and rude for not offering her a cake. Even though it was her first shift, we'd never met previously and they were intended for people I work with not for her crew of 40  She genuinely filed a complaint with her boss, who laughed it off as I already bribed him with a cupcake :rotfl:

Wow, that really was out of order of her.

Perhaps she didn't realise that you made the cupcakes, and that they were a gift from you for your mates rather than a tea time treat the organisers / your boss had supplied and which you were simply sharing out?

Hopefully she remembers to take her manners to work with her the next time she is on duty ...

Is it me or is there a growing trend of people being offended about the smallest things and complaining? You only need to read some online news outlets to see that people seem to complain about next to nothing (e.g. DM sad face - and I mean the newspaper, not Elite DM :D).

    Cupcake wars:o

Coincidentally I was reading earlier about someone saying that I didn't understand why "cupcake" was a swearword. It's true - I was:

    https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/42865-please-do-not-take-offense/page-2

Personally I don't think it is. I think they forgot to research that one at Wafflecom or wherever:rotfl:. It is on a thread about the developers of a game swearing and yet having rules in the game under which the players shouldn't swear. One of those rules that no-one ever follows again:rotfl:. Someone comments to that effect as well and that's certainly true about the way the 'rest of the world' operates I note!:D I was going to post about how it was yet another example of the inconsistency and hypocritical standards of people doing one thing and then telling others not to do the same thing - so often that happens as well and it's one thing that, from time to time, really bugs me! Then I noticed it was two years old anyway and decided not to do so. I dislike people who expect others to comply with standards that they do not - and it's usually organisations that do that a lot! Always setting rules and standards that they purport apply but none of their employees ever comply with and they just wish to restrict us:mad:. I dislike the shackles of this society sometimes, especially when no-one ever complies with them anyway - which is just what I expect! You will not believe though how much trouble and sometimes onerousness it puts onto me, as a person with Asperger's, the only person in the entire world who takes the rules seriously and tries to comply with every one of them. Even when they are mutually inconsistent and conflict with one another. Trying following two rules that purport to apply simultaneously: one says you are not to do something and another says you are to do the very thing that the other forbids (or claims to do so) - lot of stress on me there, I don't know what to do! And how would I, when I'm being told to do two inconsistent things that cannot possibly both be done? I try to attempt the impossible, but sadly I can't. (The normal person is not even aware of any rules at all, so has no problem.)

    https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/74042-when-did-cupcake-become-an-expletive/

Someone asking when "cupcake" became an expletive. (I have no idea whether an "expletive" is one and the same as a swearword or is some alternate concept - or whether it overlaps with the concept of "swearword" and, if so, to what extent.) Someone else says it is a "replacement" for swearing. Well then, as a "replacement", it is therefore banned under other rules, such as those applied by Ofcom on one occasion to an episode of the X Factor:rotfl:.

Separately, I suppose, if said in a certain way, with a certain tone (that was not pleasant), calling someone a "cupcake" - which was not clearly affectionate - could offend someone. And it could do more so than a traditional swearword could offend someone, or someone else, on some other occasion. It depends. If you accompany it with venomousness, any word could be offensive. I have no idea whether it has to be "cupcake!" as an interjection, which the use of the word "expletive" to describe it (or ask when it became one, implying they were unaware it ever was or think it isn't) suggests.

Anyway, really I guess I am just padding and filling out time as it doesn't look like it is straight back into glitching yet. (Which is, to some extent, if true because it means a Bank Holiday off!:j It's nice if I don't have to do shopping on a day on which the shops close earlier, because it always puts a bit more pressure onto me - then again, if it is after 11 and a glitch has until midnight, that also puts a bit of pressure onto me, occasionally, too. I did have a momentary bit of pressure after 11 - lasted for only a few seconds though - when wondering whether to beat the 12 deadline and go for the betting site after all - but then I quickly thought, nah, not bothered. And went off to do other things:D:T.)

Personally I complain about nothing and not merely "next to":D:rotfl:. However, some things may be "next to nothing" for you, but may be a big deal to someone else. I'm not trying to defend: it's just the way some things affect other people, which might, or might not, you. Unfortunately(?) I think about effect on other people all the time and avoid saying things myself as a result. I just restrict myself too much:( whereas others don't - or may not give any thought to (and not giving any thought may sometimes be a good thing?). I am just too considerate of others sometimes:(. Personally, you may say, I think people are just too goddamned sensitive!:p:(:rotfl:

EDIT: Do you have any evidence or examples to back up what you are saying? Just curious now as to what is "next to nothing" and what complaints people are making about what (that you have seen). Are these formal complaints or just anonymous comments? (Comments that can be, pretty much, cancelled out by what someone else's view might be.)

And they think that people who have Asperger's (:osorry to go on about it again although I suppose it does affect everything in my life - and usually not in a bad way) misread things? Sometimes, though, misreading situations/misunderstandings affect "normal" people. It happens all the time - and, I think, people who don't have Asperger's (though this is probably stereotypical generalisation and ought therefore to be avoided) tend sometimes (ah! I got out, as it isn't always the case and therefore I'm not generalising) to be more likely to make assumptions that aren't correct.

I'm assuming here that she did misunderstand. Obviously I do not know whether this person did or did not. But it does happen that occasionally people do. (It's late at night, I'm waffling:rotfl: - and these comments of mine will provide no enlightenment at all, to anyone. So true!:D:rotfl:)

That better not be a euphemism, I swear to Cod.

    *runs to bed*

So, euphemisms are out of bounds now?:rotfl::rotfl:

I agree - they're offensive:D. So, they are no longer "euphemisms" after all!:rotfl:

Euphemism: an inoffensive (or, at least, less offensive) way of referring to something. Ergo, when it is not "inoffensive" - or is not "less offensive" - then it no longer is a euphemism at all.

However, Savvy, things do not work quite like this! You are looking at technical dictionary definitions, which are theory, and may not apply in practice in RL. (Besides, dictionary definitions are merely the opinion of the dictionary writer that wrote the definition and are neither conclusive nor evidence of what other people might think.)

I know some others like my unusual way of looking at things:rotfl:.

When you think like this, though, you no longer have any clue as to what to believe (or not):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:! I can now just dismiss anything as the opinion of someone else you see and therefore now, seemingly, avoid any accountability for anything:D:rotfl:.

(Life would, or could, be so much fun if everything worked like this! And, doubtless, utterly infuriating too...! So, it could never be.)
