Recovering cost of repair following a Car Accident
Options
Someone ran into the back on my car at the end of November. There was a dent in the boot sill and the parking sensors have stopped working. I exchanged address details with the other driver, and he said that he would to pay for the work but didnlt want to go through insurance. The car was fine the drive, so I got three quotes for the repair work and but didnlt get round to passing these onto the other driver until the end of January (the car is still driveable and I'm disorganised). He replied back via text to say thanks but has since ignored any other replies or attempts to contact him.
I have a protected no claims which I don't want to lose, and my car is only worth approx the amount the highest quote I received (the highest just over £2000 whereas my mechanic thinks it would be closed to £700-800 to repair)
Have I left it too late to go though my insurance to recover the cost of the repairs? Should I contact them and tell them whats happened and let them deal with it ? The other driver is clearly no longer willing to pay.
Do I get to choose where I can get the repairs done (I'm concerned the car could be written off if the highest quote was the cost of the repair)
Any help would be appreciated
thankyou

Assuming you informed your insurer about the incident claiming now shouldn't be an issue (if you didn't they may want to know why not!)
In any case you won't lose any NCD as it's protected (assuming you have no other recent claims)
But you can still claim against the third party insurers - they would let you choose your own repairer (as would your own insurer if you insist) - but neither will pay for uneconomic repairs, so a write off is possible0 -
Contact his insurer.
The only issue is if he denies it now after 2 months!
Send him a text saying your contacting his insurer and see if you get a response0
