Hi chums and I hope everyone who are lucky enough to still have their Mums with them will phone, text or call and give them a hug.

To those who are going through a hard time I wish for you all a peaceful day of good memories.

I am very lucky today as I have been thoroughly spoiled by my two smashing DDs. The eldest I haven't seen in the flesh, as she is down in Deal openng up and airing their caravan this weekend, but we Face-timed a little while ago. I had a couple of lovely gifts from her.

One of which I am using at the moment Its a lap-top tray with a light attached which I have my MacAirbook resting on it, while I sit and type downstairs in my sitting room, rather than using the ancient old desk-top computer upstairs in my study.

Youngest DD arrived bearing gifts of a lovely scented candle and a tiny pot for growing miniature strawberries complete with seeds and compost I shall grow them on my conservatory windowsill. Also a nice top and pair of trousers from M & S in a smaller size then I have at the moment as I have been dieting and have dropped a size or two since Christmas :):):) very happy about thet as well. Still feeling full after DGS Danny's large meal yesterday .

Sun is shining atm and I shall be going to her house later for Sunday dinner as usual. My son-in-law cooks the sunday meal every week and his sunday roasts are delicious.Next weekend DGS Ben will be home from Uni and I'm really looking forward to that.

I hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing

    Cheers chums,

    JackieO xx
  • New Shadow that was beautiful. I am 70 and I still miss my "little Nan" but I have such lovely memories of her. She bought me my first pair of nylons, grown up shoes, not laceups and one of those beautful net under skirts that made your dress stand out.

She also taught me how to knit, although she might be disappointed with me because I have hardly knitted at all recently, perhaps I ought to start again.

She was almost 99 when she died and was a real lady and I loved her very much. She taught me to respect myself and others, and if you can't say something kind, don't say anything at all.

Such lovely memories of mums and grans - my beloved gran (Omi) was such an influence on my life and I wish she had lived longer. I can still see her patiently showing me how to strip blackcurrants and teaching me how to embroider.

She became stuck behind the Berlin Wall and was only allowed out to the west when she reached pensionable age! She had a few happy years living with my uncle and my mother was so delighted to have her mother free at last. Unfortunately she died way too early but I still 'talk' to her most days.

As for my mum, we 'talk' every day - mostly by email as she can't manage to hear on the phone, though I did phone her this morning. The other week I asked her to record something into a Dictaphone type thing as I know the difficulty when she passes will be remembering her voice.

I've spent most of the day so far in the front field burning piles of mum's discarded paperwork - would you believe pay slips from 1966 when she started work until the month she retired in 1992! Plus loads of old credit card bills and so on...now I stink of smoke and have trodden ash into the living room. Just waiting for it to dry a bit before having a vacuum attack.

Still mulling over the handheld vacuum problem for mum -think I'll give her a go with my Dy*son animal as it's not as weighty as the G*ech one which I'll keep. Otherwise it's a dust-buster for her but they're not so good.

Still dry outside, cloudy and cold. The bonfire helped warm me up outside!

Time I logged off, I have a 9and a half stone staffy trying to sit on my knee and there isn't room for him and the laptop.
    I can just imagine that.:rotfl:

I hope all those celebrating Mothering Sunday have had a lovely day.:o
Neither of us has a Mother now, and I'm not one myself, so it passes us by.

Mr LW went to the monthly farmers market this morning, so as is our habit, we're having quiche for dins tonight, made with the lovely unpasteurised cream he gets there. It's got tomato, onion, Qu0rn pieces and extra extra mature Cheddar (also from the fm) in it. ;)

Roll on Thursday, when I get my next two canine guests. :o

ETA: Hey, Bill the Horse what's this about you being a naughty boy? :naughty:No moreof that, you'll end up hurting yourself, and hurting your Mum, too. Aunty Wolfy will be watching you!

  • Evening all. I'm another with very fond memories of my grandma. She taught me so much. She had the patience of a saint, teaching me to knit, crochet, embroider, smock and sew dolls' clothes on her treadle sewing machine, as well as baking and jam making. I still have a lot of her recipes which I have treasured since she died in 1967. There was just one thing I couldn't grasp and that was tatting! Despite her best efforts I hadn't the patience for it! I still have her shuttles and threads and so wish I had persevered!

My DD had an hour with us on her way to work. She had brought me a gorgeous turquoise enamel watering can, decorated with quotes and stuffed full of an assortment of summer bulbs. DS arrived just after she left with a lovely bouquet of flowers. He was a bit down in the dumps as the friend who rents his house from him has told him he will be moving out shortly. The rent he pays all but covers the mortgage on it so he really needs another tenant soon. He's been reluctant to sell it since moving in with his partner about 3 years ago! (Keeping his options open I think!)

Have a nice evening folks xx

Thought I would let you know that I have had a lovely day! Met DD in town for breakfast which was really good, we had a little wander (but didn't need anything so it didn't take long). Went back to hers and I finished painting her hall - not a chore as I quite enjoy it.

She cooked a fantastic fish stew for dinner with fresh veggies and sat and chatted before I came home.

Her and DS2 bought me another wireless speaker as a gift for today and my birthday in a couple of weeks. I'm feeling very spoiled.

Spoke to DS2 this morning (he lives in The Hague), sadly DS1 still doesn't speak to me but hey-ho.

I saw three on my four children, one is in Wales I will see her one evening this week.
This is the first year I haven't bought a Mothers Day gift or sent a card. Although my mother has been dead for over 20 years I always bought for my ex MIL and then for hubby's Mum, this year there is no-one left to buy for and it seems strange.

Judi, I don't post on this thread as a rule, but wanted to share this - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5424317

New Shadow I thank you for sharing this with me. I had to pause it half way through as the tears stung my eyes. What a wonderful young man Harry is.

I went to see Mother this morning. She had been dressed and was sitting in her chair wailing. I took hubby in with me. He doesnt usually come in but i asked him to as it was Mothers day. As i went to sign in there was one almighty wail coming from down the corridor and hubby shot out of his skin. "Who on earth is that?" He asked. "Oh its just Mom" i told him.

We went in and she was busy emptying the contents of her drink onto the table and down her front but she stopped wailing for a time whilst i was holding a drink to her lips and letting her suck through the straw.

She looked better than she did on Friday. First thing she did when i sat close to her was point to my lips. Bright red shiny lipstick. Not sure she was disapproving of them or whether the colour had attracted her. Like me, she loves colour.

She didnt look as dehydrated as she did on Friday. Her face had gone back to normal. We stayed with her until finally she drifted off to sleep.

Had a couple of hours reminiscing happy times in our nearest Motorbike shop. I miss those days.

Ive had cards/messages from 4 of my kids. Sad it wasnt 5 though but maybe one day.

    Sleep well all.

  • We had a lovely lunch cooked by my grand daughter, we enjoyed it very much. DD2 gave me a new pair of gardening clogs, my old ones have had it. I use them to hang washing out etc as well as when I am gardening, so delighted.

We came home and have done nowt else, cheese and biscuits for supper and that was it!!
