Water all over the kitchen floor. Not sure what's causing the leak & worried

Hi all,

My kitchen floor is entirely wet underneath the cover.

This was first spotted a few days ago. Now the water constantly seems to be building up and I am using wet cloths to collect it and rinse it.

I have no idea what's caused this. The only thing that's changed in my house is I had the roof gutters replaced two weeks ago.

The damp floor is nowhere else in the house so I am not sure what the issue is.

Could anyone please advice on what to do? I am really worried if I leave this for too long it could be costly or move to other parts of the house!

Turn off your water at the stop tap and call a plumber.

I don't know its your house! Try under the kitchen sink, that's a common place.

Under the sink usually. It's either a tap or a screw on a valve which you turn so it's across the pipe.. Look at pictures on the Internet. You may also need to get a home maintenance book as you really should familiarise yourself with how to isolate your mains services. Or pay an emergency policy.
My dad made me learn all this stuff: unblocking drains, changing fuses, turning off gas, using temporary repairs.. Before I moved out. It was soo boring but the book he bought me is still in use 20 years later! X

Have u checked your washing machine? That's the normal culprit, feel along all your pipe work under the sink and on your washing machine hose for drips which are away from the floor.

    I heard the sound.

It's definitely coming from between the washing machine and the kitchen sink pipe.

What kind of a plumber do I need to call to get this fixed? Any ideas how much it will cost so I don't get ripped off?

Also I have home insurance, could this be used to fix it?

    Any sort.

No, because we've no idea what the problem actually is.

You'll need to check your policy to see what it covers. It's not a "standard" risk but many people have cover for emergency tradespeople.

Purely as a precaution, unplug the machine first. ;)

Pull the washing machine out and check the connections.

ask your parents to come round and fix it for you as you seem out of your depth.

They can also give you a lesson on house basics: what is a stopcock, where is it. What is the consumer unit, how do you turn off the electrics at the consumer unit in an emergency. How do you reset a MCB if it trips.
