PPI: Dorothy Perkins Store Card

I've joined up to seek some advise on behalf of my mum who has several store cards. Recently she's taken more serious steps to pay off the cards. One such step was getting her online to pay off the cards via the websites.
Today whilst I was paying off part of her Dorothy Perkins Card I found a charge for what I now know to be PPI. I can't make heads or tails of all the advice out there so was hoping someone on here could offer advice.
All I know is that my mum got her store card in 2005, she has the original store contract filled out by whomever was serving her at the time.
Is there anything she can do?
Thanks for any help!
Ryan

Yes - complain if she feels it was miss-sold
List her reasons, provide her evidence and sent the complaint offSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks for the reply Nasqueron.
Since posting this I've gone over the contract and noticed that the part which agrees to the 'account cover protection' was NOT ticked but it was signed for. However it stipulates underneath that it must be signed for and ticked. As such I would view that as void surely?
It stinks of someone filling the form in and telling my mum to sign 'here' and 'here' and that's all you need to do.
I've sent a complaint to New Day who currently are in charge of the cards seeking advice.
Beyond that who should I be targeting to complain to? Dorothy Perkins directly?0 -

Remember, you are looking for simple mis-selling reasons, not out-and-out fraud!0 -
As far as I am aware my mum hasn't had any contact with them regarding the card apart from paying it off and using it. I'm not looking for reasons, but if my mum hasn't agreed to it and she hasn't ticked the box yet they are charging her for it what else is it but fraudulent?0

Just don't go off half-cocked about this. Do your research and find out how your Mother came to have PPI without apparently agreeing to it…
Remember, you aren't making the complaint-your mother is..0 -
is PPI being charged as a separate charge, I am half getting the impression that you are going off half cocked.....
Calm down.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If your Mother didn't agree to the insurance, then why on earth did she pay it? It would have been itemised separately on each statement and easily noticeable if she didn't agree to it…0

Sadly this seems to have been common with these cards, ie not many retain the original CCA; but, of those who have, four out of five have said the box wasn't ticked.
For the Arcadia Group of stores (Burtons, DP, TopMan etc), the Santander > New Day > Genworth route is proving successful for these seeking redress for mis-selling at the moment.

However, that's not just miss-selling, that's wholesale fraud which is a serious accusation - it also relies on a customer never checking any of their statements and figuring out the charge was added on with any other charges - in which case the fraud would be identified and the salesman and/or company prosecutedSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Thank you Mersey! This has been really helpful and exactly why I signed up here. Very informative.
To those saying I've gone off half-cocked. I've simply read the documents provided and took note. No my mother hasn't spoken to anyone since about adding it on and also the only reason it was noticed was because I transferred her to online banking and took over payments. I haven't seen past paper statements so I don't know what they had on them but if they did have something on them it could, in my opinion, look like some form of interest to someone who is oblivious to this kind of thing.
All I know is I'm trying to help a family member out in recouping money that was taken without her knowledge. Fraudulent or not, either way I don't care. The fact my mum has been paying more than her minimum payment each money (totaling to over £200) and they have charged her about £170 in this charge and interest is ridiculous to me.0
