O2 Refresh Phone £400 extra charge afterwards

I can't find a thread about this problem, so I've started a new one.

I have followed the advice for the "O2 Refresh Trick" from this page on the site to obtain a refurbished Galaxy G6 phone.

(MSE won't let me post a link to this site from my accountbecause I am a "new" user !)

The events went:

1 - Phone ordered online, which gives me 2 agreements - a 0% Credit Agreement for the device at £20/month and a 24 months contract for the phone service at £21/month.
2 - Phone arrived but without SIM card. SIM card arrived 2 days later after a conversation with an O2 rep on the website, and worked fine after a bit of to-and-fro.
3 - Arranged for phone to be unlocked via the O2 website service.
4 - Phoned up to pay off phone device and cancel the service contract. Fine.
5- I now have a bill saying that £400 is due, described as "Early Termination (VAT Not Applicable)", whihc will be taken via DD in approximately 2 weeks.

1-4 happened within a few (9-10) days in Feb. 5 has just arrived.

I understood that the phone service charges were required to be waived if the loan agreement for the device was fully paid off, and that it is all within the cooling off periods anyway.

Have I got something wrong, and what is the best way to kill this charge? I've dealt with a mobile phone company before which failed to stop a DD after the contract had finished, and know they keep coming at you like Occupy zombies regardless of legal reality.

Thanks for any comments.

Matt

Just speak to them again and tell them you canceled within 14 days so you shouldnt be charged "Early Termination"
Happened to me aswell and they even took money from my bank account but later issued a refund.
Dont just cancel the direct debit otherwise they will trash your credit history

Even after 14 days the the ETF for 'Refresh' can't be more than one-month amount.
