Terrace house being sold as a semi detached

I would say semi-detached means half the walls are detached rather than your definition so a end of terrace can be called a semi-detached property.
Huh?
In geometry, a semi-circle is half of a circle
In music, a semi-quaver is half of a quaver.
A detached property is one not linked to any other. A semi-detached is half of a detached property.
If there's three or more properties in a terrace, none of them can form a half of the whole.0 -
The way I understand it:
Detached = not attached on either side
Semi Detached = not attached on one side
Terraced = attached at both sides
Any comeback on the EA? Not in my opinion, you viewed and offered on what you saw and inspected. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

That doesn't really make sense. I have a whole property of which half the walls are attached to another property and half the walls are detached so therefore semi-detached.
This is the problem it's very easy to interpret in many different ways.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Would you offer to pay more if it was a 5 bed house but priced at 4 bed?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

<shrug> It would still be the exact same property, with the exact same number and size of rooms.
The property market in this country needs to firmly extract its head from its rectum when it comes to getting hung up on labels.0 -

I read semi detached as being only 'detached' on one side. Many estate agents are now describing end of terraces (especially modern ones) as semis.
In the past, semis were mirror images of each other, but that is no longer the case. On new estates there are a number of semis where one house is completely different ( one being smaller with different layout) ; having front doors also facing in different directions.0 -

Both of these comments are very valid. If you go on a new build development these days you could spend all day arguing over description with someone with a differing view.
The point is if you're happy with the property and the price who cares?0 -
Is the house detached? No.
Is the house attached on both sides? No.
Is the house attached on one side and detached on one side? Yes.
It's semi-attached, and it's semi-detached.0 -

To be a pedant as seems popular here, both circle and quaver are objects and therefore the prefix semi means half of the object. In the case of 'semi-detached house' you will note the hyphen to show a compound meaning of 'semi' and the verb 'detached' i.e the object following this compound verb is "half detached". Your definition would not make sense as it is not half of a detached house, it's an entire house consisting of part of a building, not necessarily half.0 -
I live in what I would describe as an end terrace house (end of block of 4 houses), but my home insurers class it as a semi-detached. This also meant the premium was higher.0
