Trafalgar I agree although we should try to stay on topic it is a chat forum and should be able to chat lol within reason.

This thread isnt money saving though is it?

well it is sorta, cause if we can chat about these little teething problems/niggles and solve them ,then more folks will stay/come into 'old style' and more folks participating mean more moneysaving tips ..........................so it is really;)

    convinced?:D

Ooops! I hope folks don't mind if I put my tuppence worth in here.
I am a newbie having only recently discovered this forum as I used to ignore it in favour of 'shop till you drop', 'grab it while you can' etc. as I felt they were the best ones for money-saving tips, but was I wrong? This is a superb forum with such friendly people on it and I feel that it can be informational and at the same time keep its nice chatty feel. I really like it.
I have also had lots of helpful advice by reading old threads. In fact, I'm spending much more time on MSE now, thanks to this forum.
One thing I would add is that it could perhaps have a more snappy name as goodness knows how many people like myself have not realised just how useful and friendly this forum is.
    :p

Ditto Margaret to everything you have said about how you discovered Old Style and how you find the people here. But, please keep it as Old Style - it has a real cosy feel to it, and once you start to read all the regulars postings, thats certainly how it makes you feel - although many of them do have wicked sense of humours.

I see another post got closed. I think perhaps the guides should be guides and not voice their opinion as it seems then to become a dictatorship (not all of them) and when someone says something against them - rightly or wrongly they close the post. I am not saying guides cannot post just not on their own board as it were. I am not saying that people should be offensive it their arguments but people should debate to give everyone the best way of looking at things. I am sick of putting in the effort on a board and then it gets closed. Better to delete offensive posts.

Well I must be totally oblivious to it all. I've been on and off all week and have not noticed anything different! :o
I actually like the chatty aspect of Old Style - I think the board has a comfortable and homely feel about it and that's down to the regular posters on the board. Dont change it!
    :p
  • I haven't been here long but I've found that some threads are purely informative such as the sprouting potato thread others are, by design, bound to be chatty. The confessions thread about things you buy when maybe you shouldn't is a perfect example. No-one is ever going to learn anything new from that BUT THAT'S FINE!, it's purely for passing comments between ourselves. They all seem to balance out and if you want info it's here, if you want lighthearted nattering that's here also, after all this money saving business needs a light touch sometimes

I've always found this a really super place to be
it's a shame when some decide they are a little better than others and ruin the freindliness

Some come for factual information; others come to share ideas, ask how to do something, discuss the merits of ways of doing things (good old fashioned "chin wagging about daily doings! ;) )
Factual vs less informal sharing of daily doings? Is one more 'valid' than the other?
Personally, I think both are equally "money saving" ... hearing what others are serving for dinner could really make the difference between a *ping* moment of 'I could make that!' vs splurging on a takeaway due to lack of inspiration/motivation. If I need facts about killing fleas on my cat - I get that here too :D

Some people have opinions, some are opinionated others are self-opinionated and some really aren't interested in others 'opinions' at all! LOL

Potential 'problems' arise when one person perceives their point of view/way of doing something is superior to any other ;) It should be possible to respectfully agree to disagree.

No one person on here is *more* important than another - we're all unique, we're all valuable for different skills, knowledge base, experiences.

All the while respect for that diversity is maintained there shouldn't be problems.

I'm just a fence sitter, I came here to get away from a forum where there was nothing but slanging matches all the time in the end so I have no interest in getting involved with fights or squabbles here.

In the end it's only a forum and we don't have to meet anyone face to face. I'll stick to my virtual reality of Peace, love and good vibes to everyone.

    Namaste.
