Now, I know this has nothing to do with money saving per se, but it has lot to do with Old Style Forums.
Is it me - or is it getting a bit scratchy and irritable in here?
I only ask, as I have been offline for a week, and I come back, and there seems to be a lot of disagreement, posts getting locked, threads coming off topic and getting chatty etc.
This isn't how OldStyle used to be? It used to be chatty yes, but happily so, with warmth, advice and support for members. Things seem to be straying a bit. Is it the role of the Board Guides perhaps to curtail things when posts go wandering off, rather than encourage people to 'put in a relavant bit' to pay lipservice to the forum? Is it necessary to snipe at people in posts rather than pms?
I am sure I have just made myself the most unpopluar member in OldStyle now, but I really mean what I say in that this forum is usually so good, and it seems to be flagging a bit in this respect. I suppose I will now have to wander off to another board.

Obviously I haven't had the "before" experience that you have, but I wanted to say that I've found everyone to be incredibly helpful and friendly. If they were even nicer beforehand, then it must have been a truly marvellous place to be.
And I'm not disagreeing with you, because, as I say, I don't have the experience. I just wanted to say that I've found everyone to be really nice.

But people are all differant and will bring to the forums their own style, the knack is to be able to blend/gel together but without becoming boring
and that means you will get differances of opinions and sometimes tetchy responses:D
It'll settle down again and the best way to aid that is to ignore the tense stuff or report it.....................bearing in mind there's nothing wrong with healthy differances of opinions:D0 -
Its not that bad. We can chivvy it up. We cannot all agree all of the time otherwise 1. We would all be clones and 2. we would all have the same money saving ideas and that would be no good.
I dont see anything wrong with being a little chatty:

There does seem to be a different flavour to this forum lately. Its less informational and moving into the chatty side of things. There is a fine line in some area's IE I read the recipes when they are unusual, moneysaving or use up left overs but I gave up with the 'what I'm having for dinner' thread half a dozen messages in. I don't want to seem unfriendly or anything, but I'm after information not conversation.
Please don't shoot me its just an opinion.

Well I must be reading the wrong threads then, 'cos I've only noticed friendly, helpful and yes informative ones. The introduction of the "Thanks" button has cut out a lot of unnecessary padding, and if the occasional poster wants to elaborate on their thanks, i.e. "thanks because...", then I don't have a problem with that.
I haven't been around much in the last couple of weeks because of real life (blast it  ) but it is still one of my most favourite sites, and boards within sites - only surpassed by a private one I share with seven friends, so I do hope whatever the perceived problem is soon settles down.
Also, let us remember that "old style" is relative, depending on your age group. Some things that we over-50's do routinely would strike a 20-year-old as a little odd or excessive, so let's not be too quick to criticize. All viewpoints add to the spirit and flavour of the board and its objectives.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Ooops! I hope folks don't mind if I put my tuppence worth in here.
I am a newbie having only recently discovered this forum as I used to ignore it in favour of 'shop till you drop', 'grab it while you can' etc. as I felt they were the best ones for money-saving tips, but was I wrong? This is a superb forum with such friendly people on it and I feel that it can be informational and at the same time keep its nice chatty feel. I really like it.
I have also had lots of helpful advice by reading old threads. In fact, I'm spending much more time on MSE now, thanks to this forum.
One thing I would add is that it could perhaps have a more snappy name as goodness knows how many people like myself have not realised just how useful and friendly this forum is.

Trafalgar I agree although we should try to stay on topic it is a chat forum and should be able to chat lol within reason.
