Noisy renovations, how much warning or notice would you give, if any?

We've had the same neighbours here since we moved in & they'd been the neighbours of my Grandparents as well for years before we know them fairly well. When we're having anything done likely to create a stir we'll let them know so they can plan accordingly, they have a holiday home they can clear out to if it gets too noisy. Truth be told we used to do it because their dogs didn't like it too much so it meant they could see them right as well.
Would just like to think it's the norm that people would say "listen, there's going to be some noise over the next few days" or similar.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Why couldn't you do it during the day ?
That's what annual leave is for !
it included the easter holidays but that isnt a 3 week holiday only 1.
Trust me if you were MY next door neighbour you'd have found out there was plenty the council can do .
As you mentioned earlier their are rules about noise and work - You aren't exempt from them .
Neither are my neighbours but that didnt stop them having their music blaring at the time which DID disturb the children
If someone is doing their best to minimize the noise it's a different matter but weeks of that crepe and no effort to do any of it during acceptable hours is completely selfish .
Don't you have a scad of kids ? No.. I do not keep goats.. I am not Peter!
Why on earth would you be drilling late at night and disturbing THEIR rest on a school night anyway? I really can't believe you can't see what is wrong with what you did and why you wouldn't take time off work and get the majority of the work done in normal hours instead of working from 7pm to the wee small hours - especially with children to consider as well as neighbours.
It didnt disturb them as I already said. it was sanding mainly rather than drilling.. we did the drilling about lunchtime on weekends to wake the students and their hangovers.
.. (actually it was after breakfast was done and housey stuff sorted.)
My neighbour ripped his kitchen out recently- There's no quiet way to do it - but he was considerate enough to not do it when I was working (I work from home but not office hours) . It's what good neighbours do - try to cause the minimum of disruption and talk to each other.
I doubt the snoring students would have appreciated being woken up at 8am by drilling and sanding and cupboard flinging.. they weren't impressed when we had the windows replaced and the guys starting ripping out windows at 8:30am, but as they were still up at midnight they werent so bothered.. maybe I was being considerate of the average student sleeping pattern.. and maybe they were so obnoxious that after 6 months I didnt actually give a flying fig what they thought!
The neighbours the other side are Polish and most work nights at the meat processing plant so they too were sleeping during the day now I come to think of it. So they probably preferred not to be woken during the day too.
I just realised I have a nocturnal street haha.
It would be different if I lived in an area with many families or the neighbours were elderly I guess.. but they aren't.. one lot were uttely sphincters and the other don't speak any english so they simply wouldnt understand. It is a difference between our immediate area.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Just as well we aren't neighbours then as I don't work nine to five but 2 til 11pm so I can attend university classes in the mornings and part of my heritage is Polish so in your head it wouldn't matter that you were inconsiderate as I'm clearly some kind of sub-human being.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm clearly some kind of sub-human being.
You said that..
I don't give a hoot where people are from.. I was pointing out the reason it would be pointless even trying to speak to them.. They go out about 6pm and are back about 5am.. so would be sleeping until 2 or 3pm so they would rather I wasnt banging and crashing then I'd guess. They have now lived there over 9 years and still speak no English.. I think that makes them inconsiderate in some respects.
My SIL works nights and sleeps until 3pm.. it drove him crazy when they were refitting the bathroom next door but he was not so self obsessed to think others should fit their renovations around his work patterns. We do these things when we can fit them in.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Some neighbours are more considerate than others .....I wouldn't be so sure your neighbours don't speak English after nine years working here though- but it's a good way to avoid having to interact with those darn noisy , inconsiderate neighbours next door !!

They really dont.. when they have been over to pick up a parcel that has been left here they struggle to communicate what they want.. but they live with Polish people, work with Polish people and have their own community so they have little need to.. you'd think they'd pick up at least a little though.. Their landlord owns the factory unit next to the house and it drives him crazy because he cant get them to understand about gas safety checks or services to the boiler.. so it would benefit them.
And their 'inconsiderate neighbours' who try not to disturb their sleep are probably very welcome.. especially when singing on their bay roof at 4am and the inconsiderate neighbours don't turn a hose on them. And when the incosiderate neighbours push their windows closed so they don't get rain in their house on their TV. Or when the inconsiderate neighbours take them a christmas card written in Polish with a CD of Polish christmas carols and some home baked goods.. because I find it really sad they are away from their children and wives and parents at christmas.. (they put up decorations so do celebrate.. loudly!)
And not forgetting when the inconsiderate neighbours daughter is woken up to the sound of the (rather new) occupant of the front bedroom having sex she just puts in her headphones.. he wasnt there long the landlord hoofed him out when he got a girlfriend and her child stayed over.. he doesnt allow children.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
