upgraded to windows 10 lost my email drafts

I upgraded to windows 10 it told me everything would still be in the same place I left it, it is not
I had a lot of unsent emails saved in the drafts folder, they have gone
I can of course access my email, I needed to set it up again but the drafts were not saved.
I am so annoyed all I would have needed to do was send a copy to myself and it would have remembered it, however as it told me on more than one occasion not to worry everything would be just how it was after the upgrade I didn't think to do this
Just a warning to anyone else upgrading, to consider this first.

How are you using email client or web. If client, have you checked web mail? Unless of course you are still a POP user.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thanks
I have checked my online account, they aren't in there. They never did save online, they were always only accessible from the drafts folder on my laptop. Interesting, the email I am using is outlook.
What is a POP user and how would I know if I am one?0 -
UPDATE
I spoke to Microsoft support, they have goneIts because I typed them off line on my laptop. At first they suggested I go back to windows 8 but when pushed they confirmed that wouldn't help as I would have to log in again for access to the emails. The files typed off line are not retrievable.
It is so frustrating, it could have easily been avoided. When they say everything will be where it was, they are lying!
They then tried to tell me I was the first person to have noticed this problem????? Really all those already updated nobody has come across this before :rotfl:
On the plus side, hopefully I will like Windows 100 -
I imagine that most people compose then send email pretty much at the same time. I don't save any in drafts, and can't think why i would need to?0

I always use drafts for emails my spelling and grammar is not very good. I will write an email one day and re-look at it over the next day or two. I always spot mistakes that can then be corrected, or find a way to word it better.
I was also in the middle of writing to my mate, it is too early to send it as I only got a reply from her a few days ago so I have been adding to it bit by bit every day or so (as I think of things). I would have sent it end of the month.
I take your point a lot of people won't use drafts, but I am certainly not the only person that makes use of them. Just because most people don't use them, doesn't mean Microsoft shouldn't have considered it and warned people, the draft option is part of their own email service.0 -
Sounds a bit strange; in the old days (dial up) you would create your emails and only connect online when you needed to send them; doubt OP is using dialup. Gmail has a drafts folder which is stored online.

not dial up but with the speed of my broadband sometimes it might as well be :rotfl:grumpycrab wrote: »Gmail has a drafts folder which is stored online.
In hindsight I think I choose the wrong email providergrumpycrab wrote: »POP vs IMAP in an Outlook context described here. http://www.msoutlook.info/question/815
Thanks very interesting. I can't see anywhere to check which I am on but will investigate further later. I think some of the problems may be because I am using their free version.0 -
If you're using a PST file (Outlook mail storage file) I thought drafts were saved there?0

I think that only applies to the paid outlook. I was using the free version more like a yahoo or gmail account.
From talking to Microsoft I think the issue is the Windows 8 email app was storing the drafts. Windows 10 uses a different/new email app, the old app was deleted on the upgrade and can't be restored.
Its not the end of the world I will just have to re-type my drafts (and try to remember what I said :rotfl:). I wouldn't mind so much if there was warning with Windows 10 that some information might be lost, but it was so adamant that everything would stay the same. It could have at least warned that the the email would be a completely new app, they made the (wrong) assumption that everyone would have online back up.0 -
