it is on again tomorrow I think.
I watched the clip of the royal philharmonic orchestra playing instruments that they had made from stuff people had chucked away http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0KzUbXcLxmY
amazing what they came up with!0 -
Daft idea, intended perhaps to ridicule recyclers.0
-
it's on up until Wednesady evening. I watched it last night. Not sure what to make of it so far. Will see what tonight brings.0

I watched and found it really boring. The only interesting bit was the guy who threw away his socks and underwear EVERY day. He spent £200 a month to replace them. I do recycle but this programme didn't inspire me.0
-
I watched the programme and felt very guilty about any rubbish that I personally produce that adds to this filthy pile of rubbish.
Also was quite amazed by some of the things that end up in landfill that people are too idle or lazy to take to a recycling point/tip.0 -
Before this programme was shown there were reports that it was less than "honest":-
"Programme-makers have admitted that the programme was filmed on a specially created tip and that contestants were given generous food rations.
In the pre-recorded series, which will be broadcast from Sunday, one contestant even asks for food rations to be cut because the challenge is too easy.
Another has since admitted that she put on weight while taking part.
Producers of the show, dubbed Stig Brother - after the children's book Stig of the Dump - have also revealed that the "dump" was actually purpose-built 100 yards from a real landfill site and that some of the refuse on it had been sourced from other tips.
Channel 4 said that it would have been too dangerous for the contestants to live on the main landfill dump because hazardous gases and waste could have killed them.
Health and safety rules also meant that contestants were not allowed to scavenge for food.
Participants were nevertheless surprised at the largesse of TV bosses, who gave them £424 worth of food between them each week."
Really realistic !0 -
I watched this last night with interest, as I was a bit cynical beforehand - can they really make people live off the dump... food etc.
And the programme came over as a bit wishy-washy.
I thought of it as a kind of extreme scrapheap challenge, and while there were some good points made regarding the fact that lots of what we throw out is useable, there was no reference to what we could do with the stuff when we no longer want it as I am sure many people don't even realise there are alternatives to landfill- freecycle, charity shops, ebay etc.
Another thing which I found quite annoying was the idea that was put forward by the eco-guy who popped up now and again to say his piece, that we might be able to use the dump as some kind of resource. To do so would mean changing some laws, as our local skip/recycling area is full of men who cite it as illegal to remove anything someone else has put into a skip - even if it is in a useable condition, which, quite frankly is appalling. Maybe this program might make the government do something about this, perhaps useful items could be removed from the skips and put aside to be taken away/ sold off cheaply to those who want them??
just my thoughts,
MrsB.
It's only a game

thought the show was naff.
of course, they couldn't live on a real dump, because of rats and the diseases hat they carry. the eco-guy was aggressive and unsupportive.
they should just hold up a sign saying "look at us daft greenys" and be done with it.
i like the 'wasters' prog instead! What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0
