Guaranteed Interview scheme rejection

  • I did receive an interview under the scheme once. It felt like they were "going through the motions" I didn't get the job, and didn't expect to. Personally I think an interview under the scheme can be more of a hindrance sadly with some employees.

    Hi all,

I recently applied for a job at a government department under GIS and also didn!!!8217;t get an interview...

I have been interviewed for similar jobs previously and even emailed asking if I should apply beforehand (as the role was a little different to my current role) and was advised to by who would be the line manager for the role...

It was a very competitive role, and there probably were people with more experience than me applying but I am still sure I met the man minimum criteria...

What should I do? Move on or kick up a fuss? It!!!8217;s a role at cabinet office.

Just because you get an interview doesn't mean you'd get the job.

Even if you were the most qualified and gave the best answers.

The employer is free to employ whomever they choose.

So I also think the scheme is a hindrance.

I!!!8217;m not complaining about not getting the job...

I think the scheme has its place...its there to overcome inherent biases and level the playing field, so to speak...

Did you receive your scores for the competency questions in your application? These will tell you if you met the minimum criteria.

I didn!!!8217;t...but reused competency answers for the same grade jobs where I did meet the criteria.

    I!!!8217;ll call them and ask...

A different person assessing your answers could well mean different scores.

Worth a call to ask though.

This thread may be old, but people looking for advice will still find it. I too am shocked by the assumptions made by many people commenting here.

The OP was clearly frustrated and reported very poor feedback from the person whose name was given as responsible for the post. They should have set out a clear reason why they believed the applicant didn’t meet minimum criteria. According to the information OP gave, there was nothing clear.

The comments about “just getting an interview won’t get you a job” are particularly patronising. You won’t get the job without the interview.

Some of the comments about choppiness show complete ignorance of good and legal practice.

Perhaps ask a local disability forum to ask the NHS trust how they implement the scheme. This will maintain you anonymity and ensure the local NHS trust look at their processes.

Could it be that the admin assistant who carries out the first filter of job applications has been told to follow a 'tick sheet' and hasn't got the gumption to realise that not everyone who could be suitable matches the exact set criteria?

After leaving the RAF I applied for a job that demanded a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. I listed my 7 O Levels (grades A & B) - and received a standard letter saying that my application couldn't be accepted as I didn't meet the minimum educational requirements. I rang to query this, and was told that the admin assistant had never heard of O levels..... I got the interview and the job. (Yes, this was Local Government !!)
