Guaranteed Interview scheme rejection

I have read and re-read your original post and I simply cannot see where anybody gets the impression that you have a chip on your shoulder or are pushy! They clearly do not understand the whole concept of a guaranteed interview scheme. Even if you WERE pushy (which I don't think you are at all) then you still had a right to an interview if you showed that you met the criteria. It's appalling when organisations pretend to have this policy and then fail to honour it. You SHOULD push it as it is unacceptable. Why should disabled people have to put up with appalling treatment or be labelled pushy? It's outrageous! I've worked in recruitment and am now an employment tribunal rep and I am appalled by this.0

I left the NHS 4 years ago and don't remember how we dealt with two ticks guaranteed interviews. However, if the circumstances are as you state and you are confident that you meet the minimum requirements(*) then I am a bit surprised that you didn't get an interview. Nor do I think it unreasonable that you should ask why you didn't get one. I think if I were you I'd definitely want to know why not.
(*) Other posters here clearly think you could not have met the minimum criteria. You're the only poster on this thread who can have any idea whether or not you did. In all the job applications I've ever made I've always "known" how far I did or did not meet the stated requirements. Two possibilities strike me: first, you mention yourself that you may be overqualified and I think(?) you also mention 15 years experience. Might this be a problem? Second, we tend to think of the NHS as some homogenous entity but it actually consists of many diverse specialist areas. Was your experience really relevant to this job?
I agree with post #22. You don't sound particularly pushy or "chippy" to me. I think I'd try to find out again the reason for the rejection0 -

The issue is that OP says that THEY believe they met the criteria, but we don't know it is the case. They mainly refer to their education, but that's only one of probably 10 or more criteria. They say that have experience as worked in the care sector for many years, but that doesn't mean they met all the criteria. There could be one stating that they are looking for someone with previous NHS experience as a preferable criteria, or understanding of the NHS environment. In the first instance, they wouldn't have met the criteria, in the second, they might have failed to write about it.
There is no way we posters can decide whether OP was treated fairly or not from what they shared in this email, pushy or not indeed.0 -
There are different types of care requirement and the job may have needed experience with a particular type.0

I read the replies to this post with absolute disgust. All but two responses contain much more "chip on the shoulder" attitude than does the original posting. Why on earth shouldn't you follow up if you fail to be called for interview under the two ticks scheme? If nothing else it might provide advice as to how to improve the application in the future. If an able bodied person requests feedback post application is that ok? Or is it just disabled folk that have an attitude problem if we do it? I've been in my line of work for over 20 years and I'm bl00dy good at what I do. I have, however, recently become disabled and its making securing a new role in a difficult job market almost impossible. Why should "people like us" accept the level of criticism voiced on this forum? The attitudes of the majority of the responders illustrate acutely how anything may be used as an excuse to discriminate. The original poster was asking for advice and possibly, dare I suggest it, support. All that they received was vehemence. I'm not surprised that they are angry. Walk a mile in our shoes my friends!0

Nice thread resurrection Batman!0 -
I agree. The responses to the OP are quite nasty. What is concerning is these people claim to work for the NHS! If I discovered that any of them were involved with me I would refuse their services. There is no room for bad attitude on the NHS as it is a professional organization. People should stick to the topic of helping the OP and avoid victim blaming.0

This thread is eighteen months old. Please check the dates on threads before dredging up very old ones.0 -
There are some wonderful people on this site, and some disgusting ones too. I have had some nasty ones in the past, best to fight fire with fire.
PS I've never understood this constant need some posters feel to complain bitterly about a comment on an old thread, if someone has something more to say then why not?0 -
A few years ago - I applied for a position at a local secondary school as an IT technician and was rejected on grounds that I was not entitled to a guaranteed interview - despite making sure that I had filled in the forms correctly (I also asked my support worker to check- prior to sending it off)
There are some cases where employers are NEVER going to follow the rules and I wouldn't want to work for such an employer anyway !
I did get a similat job at another school shortly afterwards!0
