But if you are working 30 hours a week and only getting £70, why is the company you are working for paying you so little? Shouldn't it at least be the NMW for the hours worked?

The £70 I'm assuming is jobseekers....
She is basically saying they are moaning about giving her a £100 pm but would be happy to pay her £70 pw jobseekers.

I just phoned them, as helpful as a chocolate teapot... they said they have suspended all payments (not that I got any to start with), and that I could ask for a mandatory reconsideration, she asked would that be something i'd like to do, I said yes, obviously... she said she'd make a note thats what I was going to do.

Something for me to do next week it seems.

Makes me laugh, If it's not viable, should I just pack up and claim job seekers instead? I mean £100 per month next to £70 odd quid a week, and they're begrudging me it despite me actually working!!

They are not begrudging you anything, from the information received they are saying you don't qualify.

If you have a new business, don't you get JSA for 12 months, while you get it all set up?

    New Enterprise Allowance

If you are unemployed, you may be able to claim New Enterprise Allowance to help you start a business. You must be claiming an eligible benefit, such as Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or Income Support.

OP - the person I helped has now received their Tax Credits.

So it shows requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration often works.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.
  • This couldn't be something to do with working for a company as opposed to being self employed could it?? They are very iffy about self employment that relies almost entirely on work for one company/individual as they reckon that company/individual should just give you a proper job. It would make no difference that I can see to your hours worked or income earned, but I know they don't like it.... so that's possibly something to be aware of. Also, there is no way they have given you enough time to 'prove' yourself. If you don't get anywhere (quickly) with reconsideration and/or an appeal, make a new claim. In the meantime, write yourself a timesheet (on the computer, or just printed out) and list EVERY single bit of work you do, even if it's just 5 minutes, with columns so you can see paid work, unpaid work, who for etc etc. Useful for yourself if nothing else....

Hope you get it sorted and quickly....
