 Well I'm just back from freezing my wotsits off at a carboot so we've cleared quite a lot of stuff today. (and made £212. We're doing another one next week! )
I've got a bunch of books listed on Amazon which are selling in drips and drabs, and I've listed some thrillers in groups on eBay as they don't seem to sell very well individually from what I can see.
My friend has just started work as manager of a charity shop so I pop in on her with a carrier bag full of stuff most weeks!
On the minus side I've just added to my clutter by buying a couple of books  (The Joe Dominguez one on Amazon for a penny plus postage, and an Andrew Collins one I've been after for ages. LOVE that man! :heartpuls )
Last night I went through my wardrobe and there's very little I can bear to part with now, and thanks to space saving hangers and packing away the exclusively "summery" stuff, there's room to swish hangers from side to side now - so I think I might hang onto what I've got for the time being.
I'm definitely going to make myself a fleece blanket poncho - That's genius! :T :A Cheers Pooky!
I'd love a big chunky long cardigan that's a bit like a dressing gown as well - as I confess I've been wearing my actual dressing gown over my clothes during the day this week, but I have to keep flinging it off every time I answer the door so that I don't look like Mrs Slovenly McSlut from Slatternville.
Last weekend I sat on the floor of my daughter's room with my daughter - and the cat (who patiently waited until we had emptied a drawer or box and then immediately sat in it!) and we sorted through ALL of her stuff.
She now only has pens that work, clothes that she wears, and make up that isn't a health hazard - and she knows where everything is!
She had a whole drawer FULL of unopened freebie notebooks pens sticker and make up from teen magazines and they went really well at the carboot!
She wouldn't part with any fluffy toys though sadly!

Wow Jacks xxx seems like you have had a fab day! I soooo need to do that with my daughter, her room always looks like a bombs hit it and it is so full of junk! My cat is exactly the same! He loves jumping in drawers or baskets etc...crazy thing!

Cheers Donner!
Her room's only 8 x 10 but it took literally all day to sort through it all! She had so much !!!!!
To be honest she's still got quite alot of !!!! - but at least now it's tidy!
I have no idea what the cat was up to - why do they do that???He was definitely on a mission to sit in every box and drwer that we emptied! :rotfl:

This thread is brilliant! It's so nice living over here for the year, as I know anything I buy I either have to leave behind or be able to fit in my suitcase at the end end of the year, and it's doing wonders for my bank account, since when I was back at home I used to buy SO MUCH crap, madness really. I still have half a ton to ebay when I get home, urgh!...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!

Was it "Where did it all go right?" I love that book and read it about three times a year. It's strange 'cos the timeline it's from ( the 1970'2, children) was an era when I don't think we had a great deal of choice about things to buy. In a essence the book seems to echo this thread ( I think).
Nearly weakened today and nearly bought a book in Borders but then I think A) I've got a load to read already plus added another 4 form the library on Thursday to my teetering pile,Mother SAFC could always get me it for Christmas and C) Sister SAFC is buying me a Borders book token from Christmas.

 Yeah it was! The very one! I can tell you're another fellow book lover on a grand scale! (I usually have a teetering pile too and there would be something wrong with the universe if i didn't have books waiting to be read whether they be borrowed or bought.)
I've always enjoyed Andrew Collins on those list shows and I've got a biography of Billy Bragg that he wrote but I didn't realise that he'd written anything else until trusty Amazon made one of their startlingly accurate recommendations.
I can't wait to read it now!

we started our own version of this a few years ago. we have been together 8+ years but it was only when we had major lifestyle problems that led to major debt that we looked at what we spent money on. gone were the five minute wonders (ie birthday and xmas presents you think the other will need/ love/ always wanted) that we loved but never got round to opening using etc. books- are you ever going to read the same one again? - if not flog it. cd's - would you pay full price for them now? instead of feeling you have to spend x amount on xmas - why not spend the minimum and have a fab holiday or an extra holiday insead. we have saved a fortune not buying fillers/ five minutes wonders etc. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090

Honestly you'll love this book. I've got it as one of my keepers after a friend recommended it. My book pile is growing larger than ever before but I still find it hard to resist buying and/ or borrowing more.
All my other stuff could go if OH was prepared to slim down on our things. But books are sacrosanct in our house.
From first getting my own home at 22 I had enough stuff to fill a tranny van once only but now its a major headache as OH had their own place before we moved in together. Still got rid of a futon last week to a friend's daughter who has just got her own place.5th May 1973, 3.31pm Porterfield Heaven:j :j

I've just sat & read this thread and it's very inspiring!
I would *love* to sell heaps of the books & cds & dvds that sit in our house but fiancé would go ballistic. He's such a squirrel and I don't like clutter or unused things hanging around so we clash on that front. (Compromise: he has one of the bedrooms as his own study and I just don't go in there!)
I am REALLY inspired by the capsule wardrobe thing as well....I've always liked the idea but I just can't pull it off.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly
