Great post - for the last couple of months I haven't been buying anything other than essentials. No clothes, no CDs, DVDs etc... whereas before I would buy anything I wanted without thinking (credit card - argh!!). But have I missed any of the things I used to buy - No! I've been borrowing clothes from friends or being creative with my own outfits. I've been borrowing classic films from friends, and I've already reduced my spending by loads. It can be done. I'm going to continue it through the new year and I'll definitely start using ebay more frequently, to get rid of some of my clutter!Lightbulb moment Oct 2007

I've gotten rid of over 2000 comics, have sold off some of my DVD's, and took a big box of hardback books to Oxfam (my god, it was heavy!). Still have loads of stuff but it feels good to trim it down a bit.0

Hey JD,
Well done on completing your challenge, I've been lurking on your thread since you started it but not posted before! I've been thinking the same thing recently, especially with Christmas ... I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe ... how did you start it off?

id forgotten about this thread lol
im still very much doing the whole declutter/simple life thing and its become more of a way of life now rather than a conscious thought.
i took the youngest two kids away for the night friday to our fav local campsite they had a great time and it cost me £18 for a great time and a night away.
again, while lying in my sleeping bag it bought home to me all the reasons why i started this thread and i realised i still have a long way to go to reduce the crap we have accumalated in the four years we have lived in our house.
my book pile needs reducing again due to xmas/birthday presents and the odd charity shop buy. it really needs another good purge.
i have not bought one cd or dvd this year which i am pleased about, my lovefilm sub has lapsed and i think i should renew and am getting a bit bored in the evenings now.
have just re read this thread from the beginning and i think i need to get back some of that enthusiasm i had last year!!!November NSD's - 70 -
Heya JamieDodger! Good to see you back! Glad you all enjoyed the camping! When I finally pass my dam driving test (only 6 failures so far!) I plan to take me and DD camping at weekends as will do us the world of good to get away and spend time together too...for next to no money!
I soooo know where you are coming from with regards to the amount of crap being acumilated! I have so much junk it is ridiculous! I have an entire room full of rubbish upstairs...I really need to hire a skip or something or again, when I pass my test and could borrow a car to take the junk to the tip...it really is rubbish, nowt worth selling!
I have been thinking about doing the lovefilm thingy as I am on my own and get lonely after I put DD to bed...never anything to watch on the tele so could do with a movie or something!

have spent the afternoon, browsing lovefilm. i really cant afford the £15 per month subs, so found a reactivation code on here and have managed to get 3 months free:) have added films to my list and hopefully should start to get them coming through in just a few days!! must remember to cancel before the 3 months is up!!
donner-kebab - def consider the lovefilm thing, check out the voucher codes to get free subscription and it wont cost you a penny!! Yes its true, i love camping, i have been pricing up our summer holiday vacation today as we usually go for a week with friends. its going to cost me £14 a day plus food, its a lovely quiet site, we went there last year and really enjoyed it. i shall be tucking away a tenner a week from now on to cover that. good luck with your driving test, you will pass eventually, mine took 3 attempts!November NSD's - 70 -
Were you on the £15 package before? I thought about doing one of the cheaper options? But I do love my movies so probably couldn't keep to that for long! I used to use Blockbuster many moons ago but they were a right mare! Might look into the lovefilm some more then! Great idea about putting some £££ back for the holiday! I soooo can't wait to pass and then I will be out there too! Will be a great feeling when I pass...it costs a fortune to keep on trying to pass, about £110 per failed attempt so after 6 of those, I better pass soon. The last 2 times have been due to things that were not really my fault just MEGA bad luck and timing so here's to the next go next month!:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0

i was on the 15 quid package, i cancelled it a while back when things were really tight, but i did always think it was good value for money. considering i have 4 kids and dont get out maybe more than once a month, i used it a lot, this 3 months is going to be free:D a total bargain!!!
blimey! driving lessons are expensive!!!November NSD's - 70 -
JamieDodger I only found your post whilstbrowsing the board and what an excellent post,so inspirational, over the last couple of days I have started going through cupboards making piles to sell on ebay, when my kids leave school my dream is to sell up and buy a place in the sun so eventually decluttering is a brilliant idea, when the time comes I will sell all the furniture etc and start anew, good luck in your continuing quest.
