  • I am in the process of a mini declutter. I have my books on amazon, have read them once and they just sit there gathering dust. Doesnt sound a lot, but is a big step for me. I also sold my car and now just use everyone elses!
I am going to be ruthless now I am having the living room decorated.
CD v Downloading - I think legally you are meant to delete the songs off ipod if you no longer own the CD, if you download it, your OK to keep it and back it up on CD. personally, I like hard copies, it goes on ipod and then never play CD and keep it as back up.
    Good luck with decluttered life.
  • being now debt free i dont like to deny myself something if i really really have to have it, but as i am now trying to become as rich and clutter free as possible:D i dont want to return friday afternoon with a load more crap and an empty purse!

But at least your purse would be clutter free!

Good luck for your mission though. I'm trying to de-clutter too 'cos I'm going to be moving soon. Sadly, no-one else seems to want my old cr*p either!!

  • todays spends are:

Food: 4.41 (ham, apples and waffles)
    Toiletries: 8.69 (nappies)
    Misc: 1.30 (parking)
    Clothing: 2.00 (belt)

saw the belt while in town. have been looking for a small width belt with no holes for ages in brown. trousers keep falling down!

that should be it for today.

have now sold 5 books on amazon!

will be ebaying 2 things on sunday evening as penance for buying the belt!!

    the clutter must go!

and another 3!!!!!! doing really well with this so far:)

it wasnt easy to get rid of these books as they are some of my favourites but really need to remove the clutter from my life and do some downsizing!

plus everything i make from ebay, amazon ect goes into my isa which will eventually pay for my motorhome (in about 15 years lol)

  • hello all,

as mentioned on a previous thread, i went camping recently and while i was there it occurred to me that i really have too much stuff in my life. all i had with me was my bedding, cooking equipment, food, some library books, my ipod and portable dvd player. it occurred to me that if i borrowed all my books from the library( i read A LOT!), continued to rent my dvd's from lovefilm (which i already do, i watch a lot but dont watch tv at all) and downloaded my albums from itunes instead of buying them in a shop (which i sometimes do) then i would have a hell of a lot less clutter...

which also got me thinking to other areas of my life... i have a digital camera like a lot of people these days so i only really print out those photos i wish to scrapbook or display. i intend to reduce my clothing budget dramatically this year buy only buying essential items that will already go with other things i have (i have a bit of a capsule wardrobe obsession lol)

i just basically want to reduce the amount of crap i have and not buy anything else, obviously the benefits to this are more money for my savings account and less stuff to wade through.

i am aiming to do this up to end of the year for a start. and this will be my diary especially as i want to keep on track after becoming debt free. i have joined the spendingdiary.com site so i can keep track of every penny.

i will judge everything i buy with the thought that is it useful/essential, will it serve a dual purpose perhaps, does buying it enable me to save in another area etc to help me differenciate between what i want and what i need.

i am hoping that by the end of this i will have a lot less crap (ebay selling) and more money in the bank:D

    wish me luck

As a scrapbooker myself, I have no idea how you will be able to reduce the clutter of your stash;) . But I wish you all the best and I hope you succeed in your quest! At least it will give you something to scrap about!

That's it, I am inspired! We bought this house 15 months ago and the stuff in the loft (boxes of it) hasn't been touched. The book and CD shelves are creaking, and as we are renoating, I have to keep moving the damn stuff around! Whilst don't want a totally minimalist home, we don't need all this. How the heck did these italics get on????
