Good luck with your challenge Jamie.

I think I must be the only person who has never bought or sold on Ebay - i wouldnt know where to start :p

    How's the business going?
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

Spud30, I haven't bought or sold anything on ebay either. Just haven't had the time or courage yet to sort myself out.

With regards the clutter thing, whilst I can definitely see the appeal at times, but i love having a house full of kids, people, books, music and general chaotic lovely family life. I think I will reserve the clutter free travelling life for when kids grow up and go to Uni. Then it does appeal, backpacking around Europe or something. Its good to dream!!!

It's good to know I'm not the only one MissKJ.

I've got a house AND a large garage full of 'stuff' - I could think of a better word to describe it but I am a good girl :D

I feel a bit like this, when our kids were young our house felt positively spacious - mainly because we didn't have anything!

And it's got to the point where I had a full on "Enough is enough!" tantrum because hubby wanted to buy another stupid unit to put stupid dvds on!

We've got all these HUGE bookcases because we've got all these books...

We've got shelves for video games, racks for cds...

We've got shoe racks for all the blimmin shoes, boots, and trainers,

    Plus

    massive wardrobes,

    space saving hangers,

    hooks over every door...

    It's crazy isn't it?

    Count me in cherub!

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • I think this is a brill idea and I'll be watching your progress with interest! I'v been kinda trying to do this (although not as drastically as you!) for the last couple of years, but I must admit, I love my cds, dvds and books! Got tonnes of the stuff! Everything else I would like to downsize though so you can be my inspiration! :j

Nice to see other people planning to go travelling once kids have left home, I thought I was gonna be the oldest backpacker in Europe in about 10-15 years time :rotfl: Having said that, I don't intend to actually backpack - I like to travel in style and comfort so will be hotel-ing it around the world

  • Hi - yes, brilliant idea. I'm very minimalistic already, mainly thanks to my OH who has instilled a 'ruthless' approach - based on 'do you use it?' ('no' is followed by ebaying it) or is it a thing of beauty? (again 'no' is followed by frantic ebaying).

Not original I know, but it really works - home is uncluttered, darn, even my shed is organised!

As for download vs. CD, there is the quality aspect to consider too - downloads are a lot lower quality. That said, itunes gives a good indication as to whether you actually listen to anything or not; just get rid of what you never listen to or where quality isn't an issue, or use 'lossless' copying.

Books, I generally keep - they look good on my bookshelves and they often remind me of the time I was reading them e.g. on holiday. I rarely re-read, but I like being able to flick through or lend them.

My next big step is that my car is going at the end of this week...

    Good luck and keep posting

Good Luck Jamie, I shall be following this with interest!

We have started to look towards early retirement and so have started to cull our cr*p via carboot sales and e-bay = huge benefits! E-bay paid for our holiday this year, and the attic is a lot clearer, but according to OM 'things' seem to breed.
Then he noticed it was my Boots stash... bit of a sticky moment until he got his birthday present camera which was paid for entirely by Boots points and I showed him that I had bought the Xmas gifts for 20 people + all the toiletries 'til at least January. Well, I think there is method in my madness!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

thanks for all your support guys:D

    spends so far this month:

    £26.98 Bt Broadband
£7.50 Gym Membership (reduced amount as couldnt use while on summer holidays
    £11.65 Tv License

these are all so far in my BILLS catagory so they are needed. and before anyone says..yes i know that i could get broadband cheaper, did try once, huge !!!! up so went back to Bt, will not be persuaded to leave again:D especially as i use it for business and need a decent isp.

the gym is not a luxury its my sanity lol, plus it doesnt add to my clutter. i rarely go out so for me it is my entertainment and leisure!

had a no spend day on sunday and will have another today! tomorrow will be my tesco food delivery so will update with totals then!:D
