How do you use a dish washer?

I tend to use mine every other day as there is no point doing a part load and for us a days worth is only half full.
On the salt front we live in a very hard water area and just using combo tablets gives very poor results. I use both salt and rinse aid. On my machine you can make a setting on water hardness which adjusts salt consumption some how. The rinse aid is also adjustable - it's a trial and error process to get that perfect. As I add both I don't use combo tablets at all - just Supermarket own brand budget ones which are just a fraction of the cost of the brand leader all singing all dancing ones as are the own brand rinse aid and salt.0 -
Assuming this is a genuine question ....
Most dishwasher tablets/capsules have all the required components (detergent, salt etc.) ... i.e. they are All-in-one ... so there's no need to add salt.
As regards water pressure... as long as you have a decent pressure at your kitchen tap, and the water feed to the dishwasher isn't blocked, then you shouldn't have any problems.
Just load the dishwasher, put in the tablet in the container (usually on the door - it has a spring-loaded cover), close the door, select your wash programme then press start. (This assumes you've plugged in the mains electricity and switched it on).
salt in dishwasher tablets is pointless and just a marketing gimmick, inside your dishwasher you have a resin chamber through which all the water passes when added to the machine, the purpose of the crystals is to soften the water which removes the chance of white streaks when the wash is finished( adding salt to theh resin chamber regenerates the resin crystals) it is impossible for water that is already in the wash chamber to enter the resin chamber so adding salt to the wash chamber in any form is a complete nonsense as it can not regenerate the softner crystals, same thing with "dishwasher cleaners" , everytime you do a wash cycle you are adding detergent designed to break down grease and hot water which cleans exactly the same parts that any aftermarket dishwasher cleaner will reach, yet another marketing nonsense, i spent 20 years repairing domestic and commercial dishwashers so know a thing or two about them0 -
Have you tried it ? What happened? I just put the tablet in and press go and its been working like that for years. Occasionally I put salt in but I think this is to de grease the dishwasher and clean it. Good luck0

The salt is used by the water softener - see post #130

I tell the lads that if they want me to cook supper, they'd better get downstairs & wash the pots. Some nights this results in them cooking supper & I have to wash the leftover pots.
Salt tablets are strictly emergency heatstroke medication, and to be avoided if possible.0 -
AND there's an art to loading the cups and plates and stuff into the dishwasher especially if its a slimline one, takes a while to figure it out.
Once you have got the best method, you will appoint yourself as the Main Dishwasher Loader around your house, no one else will be able to do it like you, and you will constantly move that stuff about that other people put in.
If overloading as I always do a quick wash down with water before plates go in help.0 -
Hi everyone
Just bought my first dishwasher so I'm a complete Noob, I thought once it was connected up, you just put a tab in the slot and ores go! 😂
But someone said I have to put salt? and set the water pressure?
It's a Hotpoint FDFL 11010 Futura
Any laughs or help would be most welcome 👍🎉
I think to read the manual it came with is the first option
Was it acquired in a less than honest way? If so you may not have a manual but could get one online.
You also have to set the program.0 -
I had this debate with someone in the past who used to rinse the dishes before putting them in the machine.
There's no point and it's wasting more water than just hand washing alone.
All you've got to do is scrape off any remaining food into the bin and put the dishes in the machine. There's no need to rinse the dishes.
Do you rinse the dishes under running cold water? Or running hot water? Do you fill a sink with hot water with some dish soap and wipe the food off using a sponge?
I guess it depends how often it goes on. With just the two of us at home now, ours only goes on every forth or fifth day, so unless we give them a quick rinse the food will go rock hard and the dishwasher simply wont remove it all (year old Bosch). Also too much food residue and the dish washer will get quite whiffy before its full.0
