I've been feeling under the weather for the last couple of weeks with some kind of evil virus... Part of the illness is it's made me not want to eat. I've lost 11lbs in a week. Not good.
Since food is vital to make myself well again, I wondered if anyone has any suggestions or recipes for really quick and easy dishes packed full of nutrition that will nurse me back to health? Do you have a dish that you always turn to when you're ill or one your mum always used to make for you? I live alone so it needs to be simple as I just don't have the energy to prepare anything complicated.
Thanks,
Kevin

When I was small and beginning to convalesce my mum made me mashed potato with a soft boiled egg chopped through it. It was very easy to eat and gentle on a tum that hadn't had much in it for a while. I've fond memories of sitting tucked up in a blanket with a bowl of this perched on my lap beside the coal fire!0

If I'm feeling really grotty, my DH makes me scrambled egg on toast, which I find easy to take.
It was also my go-to food when DH was in hospital for 4 days a while back, and I was too tired and worried to eat properly.
Hope you feel better soon, Kevin. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Soup maybe? Your stomach will have shrunk so best to try for smaller portions or like suggested eggs of some kind easily digestible and not overbearing. I hope you feel better soon Kevin.0

A soft boiled egg chopped up in a dish with a slice of bread & butter.
Lentil soup as an alternative.
We were always allowed a big bottle of lucozade too.0 -
My ultimate comfort food is rice pudding. Simple to make and v delicious, just takes patience standing over a pot full of milk whilst it reduces
Just re-read your post...11lb in a week??! You must feel so weak now. Make sure you're hydrated and see your GP if it continues.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

It may sound counter-intuitive, but for me, a mildly spiced dahl always works. Easy to eat but also "interesting" enough to taste.
Hope you feel better soon.0 -
This might be a northern thing, but mash potatoes and gravy. Pure comfort food. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

A small piece of smoked cod loin lightly poached ( you can buy it in an oven ready bag), a bag of spinach, pre washed, pierced and cooked in the microwave, fish on the bottom of an oven proof dish, topped with the spinach, then topped with grated cheese and grilled. Sometimes if I'm feeling extravagant I put a poached egg on top.

If I am feeling too poorly to cook I usually get wonton soup from the Chinese. Sometimes I get 2 portions of soup or I get soup and a chicken with ginger and spring onion dish. That's my go-to comfort food. Not very mse but losing 11lb in a week is extreme and calls for extreme measures!
I would second the visiting your doctor advice as they may be able to prescribe some drinks that have all the nutrients you need in them. They don't taste great but will sustain you until you're back on your feet. I hope you feel better soon.Mortgage and debt free0 -
my pick me up is a cheese and raw onion sandwich, with white bread...naughty but oh so nice, x0
