Linking bank account to paypal

There are tons of articles highlighting that it is too risky to link your main current account to paypal. It is recommended to have another account (better with another bank) to keep your main fund and salary safe.

I also asked this question, if you open multiple accounts, and it was strange to most people here. The only motive mentioned was bonuses for switching.

If in the UK, everyone has only one bank account, how do you safely link your bank account to paypal?

I'd guess that most financially savvy people, whether on here or not, will have multiple accounts. the general consensus in your previous thread does not contradict that position. If you have interpreted it differently that's your problem.

why would you link Payapl to a bank account when you can link it to a credit card?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

My Paypal account has been linked to my main bank account for years. There is a risk every time you use your debit card, online or anywhere else.

I think you'll find millions of people in the UK have more than one bank account ?

    Lots of DD's
  • I have 3 separate Pay Pal Accounts - linked to 3 separate bank accounts.

They provide each account with one of the Direct Debits required each month.

    Never had any issues.

A friend of mine had his account overdrawn when someone hacked his PayPal. PayPal also refused to refund the money as they believe it was him, it took him a while but he got his money back through direct debit guarantee scheme. I would assume it is not safe to link your main bank account, possibly just link a saving one to withdraw money too in case you sell in eBay, and attach a credit card and verify it for purchases.

His PayPal account definitely wasn't hacked!. He must have given out his password through a phising attempt or had a virus on the computer he was using. If PayPal accounts really could be hacked then it would be all over the news and everyone would be loosing money!.

    I've never seen one.

I think most posters on that thread were quite accustomed to having multiple accounts but they thought that the vague question and lack of any explanation for it was what was strange.

What is the difference? The card is linked to the same bank account.

Is there a standard bank account, which doesn't have a debit card attached?
