will have to get somone in I suppose, see what they say

Tread carefully. Be wary of any damp company offering a "free survey" or I'll bet you anything you'll be back here saying you've been diagnosed with rising damp. If you do get a free survey, I'd get 2 or 3 and see what they say and pay attention to how thoroughly they check it and where they look. If they just stick a damp meter on it (which would be pointless - its obviously damp!) and don't even look outside you should forget about them.

Get a free survey from a damp compay and I guarantee they'll 'identify' damp; they may even go as far as identifying the cause (rising damp?); then they'll recommend injecting dampproofing into the wall; then they'll quote you £1500 (or £2500 to do all the external walls not just this one).

3 months later you'll be asking what you can do as their treatment has not solved the problem.

Don't even think of solutions until you have an unambiguous understanding of the cause. Water always comes from somewhere. Until you know for sure where, you cannot do anything.

I think you're right, the pathway outside looks like it's has been built up

Worth checking the guttering as well as water coming off the roof can also cause a bouncing effect that can go above the DPC if this isn't very high . You should be able to see the DPC around the house just follow it round if you can't . Or look for injection holes .
