Yup - If you are just looking for an effective, no-frills word processor, Abi Word is an excellent choice.

OpenOffice if you want a desktop package, google docs is fine for basics

Google docs is good but again, you can sometimes get formatting compatibility problems when opened up in MS Office apps. I wouldn't trust it with a CV unless you check it in Word first, otherwise it could well cost you an interview.
